ARRRGGGGHHHHH!!!! What a MOT (not in a good way..) Basically car failed on a few bits but all surpassable, need new headlamps, and new exhaust. Thats basically it apart from a few free fixes (window sticker etc) Now the really bad part.. during the MOT (or possibly shortly after the full details are not known!) The car overheated (I assume) and the radiator top hose EXPLODED in spectacular fashion. (Hit roof of the garage) narrowly missing the garage man.. The top hose blew off both ends and split along its entire length. Anyway on investigation by me found the electric fan connector was not connecting. Hence my assumption of overheating. The top hose has been bodged to get me home so may the work commence.. Have a list of bits urgently needed if anyone can help let me know! Joe

Oh dear, what bits are you after I'll dig about in the garage. Shame on MOT but at least not failed on major things...

True.. I need either a new exhaust or the rear half of a Simons sports exhaust (lol hahaha) More likely is.. a locking pin for the rear brake pads, a brake pedal rubber, and a decent n/s headlight or pref. a pair. oh and now a radiator top hose too! Joe

Just noticed this thread, so I'll chip in with what I know of the history. Did you get any paperwork with it? There was a massive history file... Si? Boring? ;D Anyway, I bought it from a guy in Essex about four years ago with a blown head gasket. He'd bought it out from underneath me on ebay a couple of months before from the guy who did all the work. I contacted that guy, and this is how it goes together. He bought it and ordered some 16in TSW Stealths, which are in the picture that Si posted from when I owned it. He then ordered the Simmons exhaust, he actually ordered two as they wouldn't ship one. He then had the engine swapped from a 2ltr to 2.3 and the head built up with a Piper or Kent cam and it produced 175bhp after some tuning. Unfortunately the cam wore it's lobes in under a year. So the head was returned to standard, I then replaced the head with a low miles one when I did the head gasket, all new bolts were used and it was a pukka job, skim and all. The Bilstein suspension, LPG, tow bar and other mods were to accommodate towing his caravan easier Yes really... In a bizarre twist he lived in Peterborough when he did most of the work, roughly at the same time I lived there. He then moved to Yeovil, where as far as I know he still is. So it sold from there to Essex and came back to the Southwest with me on a trailer... It's a great car that had over 6k of receipts with it when I got it. I replaced the blue velour interior with the black leather from a '78 low mile 264 GLE, so it's nearly GLT spec.

Cool cheers for that, got a good wedge of history but no info on any of the above apart from the LPG, good to know a bit more about it! Now just need to source some decent headlights, a new exhaust (ooooo he shipped two anyone think he still has it?!) and a new radiator top hose, preferably by the weekend so I can get a cheap re-test and be back on the road! Lol Joe

Well, finally a couple of months later.. I have an MOT.. Managed to source a decent pair of headlamps with as new reflectors, decided to ghetto patch the exhaust as I didn't want to shell out on a new one with the current turbo plans needing a newbut different one anyway. Thankfully the little jobs got it through with the before mentioned advisories, which incidentally are the same as the test before. Other than getting all that sorted I managed to get a replacement drivers side window mech and motor and door pocket to fix the broken items. Still not got round to that or finishing the exterior conversion.. but time will tell! As for the scary exploding pipe it was traced to a dodgy fan connection letting the car overheat while they tested it (nice of them to notice) That was also fixed before the MOT and I sourced a bigger fan too as the current one is a tad on the small side, yet to fit that too! Gladly after a bit of driving/idling it appears there is no head gasket damage. So thats an added bonus plus the car didn't try to kill anyone today! Joe

Nice car! If you want to see how easy it is to supercharge a 240 using an LH injection system or even better with MS, have a look here www.volvovic.org.au/joomla/index.php?option=com_docman&task=cat_view&gid=16&Itemid=44Here is a replica of the factory Group A Touring car spoilers used on the works racers This is made and sold by www.dvs.net.auFor a sloppy shift, I ditched the original rubber bush system and made some new bushes in aluminium, but they wore out quick, so I made some in Nylube self lubricating nylon and the shift is fantastic and has been for a year. Almost all play has been eliminated and it shows no signs of wearing out... However, for the ULTIMATE shift fix, and short throw to boot, check out this guy www.cravingboost.com/products-short-throw-shifters.htm . I am getting one of these for my 242GT...... Enjoy the Volvo modding, it's fun!

Well after twice missing out on car of my dreams.. The volvo is still here. I consoled myself by fixing the drivers side window and door card.. other than that the car is still the same.. for now. Mind you after all the excitement i've lost a bit of enthusiasm for it and am now actively looking for smething else.. has to be RWD and pref damn quick! The way things are at the minute I'm holding out no hope of a sale but a swap is always n the cards. Joe

Just crashed the volvo.. will be a write off. Too much damage and possibly chassis. Full story in the general section but too gutted to type it again. Am looking for help in getting it moved back home and sorting some transport sharpish.

Well my Mojo is officially returned.. so here's an update. Might even go tidy up the rest of the thread after this! lol. First off a recap.. We last saw LOVO looking like this.. Nice in an all round kind of way.. then one dark night on route to work a suicidal deer jumped out in front of me as I rounded a bend.. wishing to protect my new headlights I swerved and came to a sharp stop via a curb, hedge and 'warning tanks' signpost. Irony at its best! The little bump saw LOVO looking like this and residing at work for a few weeks over xmas.. Well investigation revealed that the steering was fubar'd.. inner wing bent, outer wing very bent and bumper had seen better days! I found a red torslander estate with a dodgy engine (turned out block was cracked by the way) and poached the parts I needed. That coupled with a bit of hammer hitting saw LOVO back in one piece and drivable. While doing the work I noticed a rust patch on the front end. So I arranged a trip to Davemk1gti's unit for some work. What started as a patch ended seeing LOVO somewhat 'tweaked' heres the pics.. see if you can spot the changes. There is an obvious and a more subtle one! All that remains for now is to say thanks Dave and the others for a good day. I'm off to continue my never ending part hunt to complete my plans.. Oh and virtual beer for first person to spot the mods! Joe

Oh and one last thing to clear up a little confusion.. LOVO was christened LOVO by me at the start of the project.. however piccys of it on facebook produced a name calling fest by some mates. The most ludicrous suggestion seems to have stuck. Typical! So LOVO is now unfortunately named.. ASSRAMMER. I know.. I'm getting my coat. In my defence it wasn't my idea, but it did stick... grrrr

Top work! I really like this car, I've enquired about buying it several times. It would of been a shame if it didn't get fixed so well done.
