I thought I would have some fun with my old tail lights............... .........kinda like it, even if it's totally illeagal. Still it will all come off with thinners if I get bored (or pulled over ;D )

Yeah a darker shade would be better, this was really just an experiment to get the paint/lacquer ratio right. The finnish is also kinda flat, so I'm going to uses cutting compound and polish to get it shiny again. As for the legality of it, my indicator isn't very orange, the reverse light is pink and the reflector isn't very reflective anymore either!

I don't think paint and lacquer mix too well, proper tinting spray does a much better job. Did it more as an experiment as I've had a few customers at work, have ask if we can mix up tint sprays before. I kinda hoped that mixing lacquer and paint would produce a shiny transparant finish but it didn't quite work out like that

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

What happened to the Saab wheels and your wing? Various sideways action........... The wing was a result of a misadventure with a telegraph pole and two of the saab rims got badly bent when I hit a curb at a dodgy angle There is a plan involving some big wellers that is being hatched asap bet it's a royal pain for anyone following you as well! It not that bad, the brake and indicator come through quite bright. No worse than modern cars with the frankly curse word LED tail lights.

Looks exactly like one of those cheap-ass toy cars from years back, that didn't even use clear acrylic for the lights - awesome!

I woulda though it would be shiny too. Another coat with just normal lacquer do the job maybe?

Tell you what did look wicked last week - it was either a Kia or, I thought, a Hyundai Accent, in black with gloss black tail lamp tints the same colour and shinyness as the rest of the car. Had some decent wheels on too and was lowered - looked simply superb and completely unusual at the same time.

I think it's the shade that's wrong - as noted. I wouldn't have the cojones to try it tho' - fair play - and as you said, easily reversible.

I'm sure your not far off how a few bodyshops tint lights, maybe a bit too much laquer. the method your using can work. used to be popular with the max power generation to tint the rear lights body coloured and that was just a small amount of colour mixed with a shed load of laquer.
