Hello there!
So I needed a daily, I bought a daily, and now I got a project car that'll stay inside for the cold and salty Norwegian winter... WTF?
Well, you see, buying my golf was great. At first, I saw a daily driver that I could just leave rotting, and the feeling of not giving a sh** about a car is just great. But as it turned out, this car was way better than I first thought, and I kinda ended up caring a lot more...
So, the car. An early '88 registered late '87, it came to Norway in '03 when the owners daughter went here to study medicine. That also meant that the car has barely seen snow and salt, compared to all other golfs in this country. It's also a 1.8 CL, K-jet thing, so though not a GTi, it's not that slow either...
It has always been taken well care of by good workshops, but for the last year she hadn't bothered to spend as much money on it as before. This had resulted in a totally worn out rear damper, a few bad wheel bearings, and some worn rod ends and such.
So, up on the stands we go:
Replaced the the grill, as the foglights on the old one was broken, and the plastic wasn't all that well either. Also, it did get a new oilpump, plugs, plugwires, wheelbearings, rod ends and ball joints, plus a new sett of Weitec 40mm lowering springs and dampers.
Unwashed and stil shabby, we took some photos. Suddenly, it looked like this:
Wasn't all were I wanted it though, went crazy on Ebay for stash, and damn... This ended up on and in the car
As stated in the title, it's a kind of a European Touge car. Japanese racing, drifting, Initial D and all that stuff has inspired me a lot through the last few years, and when I had to sell my old RX7, at least my new cheap drive had to have some inspiration from that stuff.
So now, the wheels. Those old Fondmetal 13"s were kinda kewl, but not even close to being wide enough, and also, I needed something to suit my tyre of choice, Toyo Proxxes T1R. It was the cheapest high performance tyre I found, and in the dim 195/50-15, it was silly cheap. So how about this:
Oh yes, Schmidt Modernlines... The revolution wheel centre has been haunting me for a few years after I sold my old Volvo which had the last set sold as new in Norway, so when I found these quite cheap from a fellow golf owner, there just wasn't a question. I had to have them.
But was this enough? Nooooo, some more stickers had to be put on....
So that's where it has ended up so far. Still needs more lowering, and some other bit's and bobs. I will post more interior pics later as well, it has a nearly mint condition brown interior.... Yes, brown ;D It's sofa king cool...
If you bothered to read all this, maybe even comment, thank you! I'm new on this forum, but I think it's a place I might like to grow old ;D
