Hey gang, bit of a daft q this but here we go. Anyone know what is the right battery for a Landcrab? I've just bought one and it has no battery, I went to the local car shop to get one and they came up with the one which is used in a Marina, an '015' I think it is. Anyway it seemed very small, my crab is an 1800 manual but if it was a 2200 auto i'd have thought one cold morning would defeat a little battery meant for an A series. Any comments? Anyone got an old battery catalogue lying about that will clear this up? Have a few pics of the car anyway, £150 off eBay, not bad eh?

Can;t help 'cos I don't know the numbers but when I had my Marina TC it contained a smallish battery, certainly compared to the massive thing in the Oxford.
I suspect they downgraded the battery sizes a bit once they started fitting alternators to things.

thats cool.
015 is pretty much the universal battery for British [non-Ford] cars of that age, I have bought more than a few of them over the years for various Vauxhalls and the like. Small they may be, but they seem to be the right thing.

If the same battery is listed for 1300 and 1800 Marinas then I would think it would be OK??? I always found the spares guy of the owner club very helpful, maybe worth a call? www.landcrab.net/My old crab:

... the only injury I sustained was a bumped head when I let the seatbelt of without realizing the car was upside down and that's not really the car's fault.

My father had an L reg new as a company car. Fantastic tow car and we went everywhere with a little Sprite Alpine caravan. He liked it so much that when he had another car (Ford Consul 2.0) it got put into storage and got out as a back up whenever he needed it. In the end his company was sold to a larger one who insisted on keeping all the cars despite my father trying hard to hang onto it (by that time he was a director). FWIW it leaked water in when it rained. Dealer said common problem and two choices - either bring into them (50 miles away - fleet purchased by head office) or they would put a couple of tubes of sealant in the post for DIY fix. Remember this was a brand new car ! I was the one who stripped out the dash and crawled under to seal seal all the seams as factory hadn't applied ANYTHING to them. It also hadn't a clock so I fitted one in the right hand side air vent hole (fitted perfectly) and then hung the vent underneath with a length of Mecanno. At one time when Morris was having a rest in company garage my father had a Wolsley Six auto and that was a nice car as well.

Why are they called landcrabs? Thought it was because of their 'four-square' stance? Who actually came up with that nickname anyway? BTW, After seeing this pic, I think my Landcrab itch has come back:
