people over on the mini forum have been trying these and i think the results are very positive. Its so cheap, 1/10 the price of anything equivalent.

good read, ta.. As suspected, it looks like a hall effect and triac job just like most 90's OE system, more reliable and less complex than lumenition and the other opto systems. I'm going to try tomorrow to fit one to an (I think) 25D4 on a '54 Austin, so we'll see how adaptable it is. If I'm right, it should fit pretty much anything with a lucas D4 dizzy (like imps, for example) and neg earth (but we all did that already...) lol to the guy who wondered if he could do without the choke afterwards, mind...

Interested to hear how you get on SOC. There was a late July post in that forum saying that a 25D version would be out in 6 weeks or so.

saw that, yeah.. There is only the one kit in the online catalogue atm tho. If i remember right, its only a rotor arm height difference (cos it went from round cap to square cap) between the 25D4 and the 45D4.... I'm also suspecting mine is even older, but we'll see in the morning.

Yes, please do let us know how you get on with them I had a basic Lumenition kit on my Minor (the one that is completely contained in the distributor) & the Volvo has a similar type (not sure of the make as it was already there!) & never had any problems with either.

Very interesting. Thanks for posting this up. Will be interested to see how folk get on with them. The Mini is due a mechanical treat.
Re: the choke comment - someone was trying to sell their 2CV recently and it said "electronic ignition so no need to use the choke!" Oh dear. Not sure I'd want to buy an old car that ran without choke...

Well it's on.Takes, literally 2 minutes to fit, everything fits where it should and the car fired straight up.Definately started better from cold - not that I was getting problems, just before it would turn over a couple of times before catching and now it starts instantly.
Haven't been out in it so can't say if it's improved performance or not, but it all seems good so far!Fingers crossed it'll prove reliable over time too.

this is interesting. my condensors a bit wafty on my moggy and maybe something like this would be a nice step. you could argue saying too cheap, but its probably made in indonesia for less 30p per unit anyway. you think any other bottom end electronics are made anywhere else except the pacific rim?

if it makes you feel better about the price, £21+ vat is what the local britpart dealer wanted for one... Nice margin, eh? I've ordered one online instead.
