I'm taking the Allegro onto the continent in a few weeks, ive been looking for european breakdown cover but cant find anything suitable. Most don't cover cars over 15 years old and others will only recover a car back to the U.K if the cost of revovery is less than the value of the car, i.e if youve got a cheap old Allegro they wont recover it!
Does anybody know to any retro friendly euro recovery firms? Recovery cover after an accident would be good too... just in case...

I paid around £55 for 4 days on the Porsche when I went to the 'ring. Was loaded by about £20 because it was "old." Again, as you say though, they will only do recovery to the value of the car. Which kind of sucks TBH.

Had to use mine for the first time ever this year and they were very "funny" about the value of the van. It sorted itself out after a while but they wouldn´t have towed it back if it´d been a cheap and chearfull wreck!!! Sorry not much help, but if you get stuck in northern Germany give us a shout! ;D

Try Footman James Insurance, I know it seems extreme to swap insurance for the sake of breakdown cover, but the cost of adding breakdown cover to my normal (Direct Line) policy was somewhere in the reigion of £140, whereas a F/C policy with Footman James (classic policy) included Euro cover at no extra cost, and the whole job lot was about £105.
Most normal breakdown types wont cover a car over 15yrs old in my experience.

RAC do single trip cover, and last time I used it, there was no age limit for the car. You have to pay extra due to its age, but thats all.
Regarding recovery, I would think all companies would be the same....if the costs are higher than the cars value, they wont do it. Nowhere is likely to value an allegro at more than a hundred quid or so, so the chances of them recovering it are nill.
I would suggest just taking some tools and a stock of spares for anything that is likely to fail that you might not find easilly, and DIY.
If you break down on a French autoroute or service station on an autoroute, you MUST be towed off the autoroute by whoever the approved contractor is - Minimum £100 tow charge.

Great! I really don't want to abandon the Agg in Germany or France, it was meant to be a cheap old banger but ive sunk alot of money and time into it... Its got to be worth £450-£550 easy I recon, although to many people its just an old banger worth £50.
Ive got U.K breakdown cover so all the European cover needs to do is get me to Calais and push me onto the ferry. Could that be an option?

European cover is supposed to get you home, so you should be met off the ferry by the AA or RAC if that's what it takes.
