If you can see the pics on the screen, put your mouse cursor over one of the pics and extra information appears below the image. Then put your mouse over the IMG code in the yellow box and click on it. It should then say copied.
Next, when reply to a post on here, right click the mouse and select paste. A load of text appears that look like [ IMG]http://img.photobucket.com/etcetcetcetcetc[/IMG]

Small update. Due to the increased height from the taller profile, I've removed the front springs and chopped a coil off. It's nice fun removing the springs with the right tool. Did that in the snow, so got this pic at the time. It sits better, but it needs to be lower, so later step will be 1.5" lowering blocks and then chop more from the front The next thing I've started is to look at the engine insides. It's very clean, no gunge, but there is this much cam slack due to these cars having nylon teeth. So, the cam is being changed with something a bit stronger (but not extreme by any means) and new cam sprockets. I bought these ages ago, but I held the philosophy 'if aint broke, don't fix it' as the car has been nicely reliable. And I'm a lazy git too. I also test the dual carb inlet to ensure the bonnet shuts. Need to modify the carbs a little so they work in sync and I'll fit this at a later stage. I will break the cam in first on the current setup rather than having an unknown setup to use to get the car running.

Thanks fellas. Will get it lowered more in the next month or so... Did some more today. Cleaned bits up and then installed the cam. Got to be careful putting these in so that the lobes don't damage the bearings, but all good. Studding helps handle the cam, particularly for the last journal. [ Test fitted the sprockets. Can't see it in the pic but the dowel pin should be covered by a larger washer so that it has no chance of popping out. Will get that sorted next and then it will be a case of re-assmbley with the remaining original parts.

Well I've been plagued with problems. No.1 - I wanted to check coil bind on the valve springs. I had a total clearance between coils of 60 thou. Some may be ok with this but I felt it was too tight particularly when I consider another finding. The pressure of the springs is considerably low. I could open the valves up about half way by using my hand. Not good. So I thought not a problem I'll change the springs. No.2 - As it was difficult to do this in situ without making up a tool, I thought I'll whip the heads off and this will also help me tackle another issue. The exhaust manifolds are well known from blowing at the rear and mine did this bad on one side which required a bit of maintenance. The decent resolution is to skim the heads and manifold surfaces. Took the heads off with the manifolds and then remove the manifolds from the heads. End up with 5 broken studs and one broken lug off a manifold. Broken studs were expected to be fair. No.3 - Previous repairs to heads and manifolds meant they are in a bad way. They all now need welding to build the surface up and then be skimmed. Valves out and off the heads and manifolds go to a blacksmiths for initial repair before the machine shop grind them down. No.4 - Later on in the garage and having a can of Grolsch, I felt it was prudent to check all valves over and make note of their sizes and lengths. I then notice that one cylinder head had larger exhaust valves in. This is a bit odd seeing they're both similar dates. Not sure why one head was machined to larger valves but why only do one side? No.5 - I've now got considerable machining to have done as I can't really be bolting on different heads. But at what point does it stop? Why do 4 valves and seats when it makes sense to do all 16? This could easily end up very expensive. So with this in mind and the difficulty in trying to hunt down another set of heads over the last few weeks has meant I've had to the expensive option and get Edelbrock heads. Still in a pickle with what to do with the manifolds. They're still in repair but ideally I'd fit headers, but these are $650 and take 3-4 weeks at the quickest to be made up and sent here. Conveniently they won't send to the UK so I'd have to find a middle man. Buggers. So whilst I wait around for the exhaust manifolds, I've stripped the new heads down for inspecting, lapping and to remove any casting debris and sand that may be lurking.

Good choice on the heads given all the problems. If you get the headers I know a guy in Essex that brings over containers. Very reliable and cheap.

Hi Dr. Yeah, it's a case of do a job right... and once. I'm hoping to get something air freighted from the states as it would be easier to fit headers with the heads off by getting them in place. And I still don't have any cast iron ones either. On to the other head. A bit of disassembly and then whizzed over to a mate to blast an air line on them. Worthwhile as there was casting sand left over. Inspected all valves and did a light lapping job to check things further. This old compressor is made by Snap On. It's from the 60's at the latest and was designed by the person who uses the tool. It's so easy to use compared to the curse word ones Clarke and others sell. And for fun (boredom/curiosity) I had a quick mock up with the intake.

Cheers mate. Well I've been cracking on with things. It's been difficult to make progress but today I did a fair bit. Getting the headers bolted on was very difficult but got there in the end. Inlet also took some convincing to fit. Some of the new lifters weren't happy and they lifters bores took some time to polish up for the lifters to be happy. I've also had to do shimming on the rockers shafts as the valve spacing is different. Will do the other shaft tomorrow and then the next stage can be done. I've test fitted the carbs. Some fettling of the linkages will need to be done and a new kickdown cable will need to be added so some more fabrication. There's plenty more little things to be made such as water piping, the starter motor wiring (interfered with headers), the exhaust, the pcv system etc etc. I need to make a list as otherwise I'll forget something. Cheers fellas. I assembled the other rocker shaft yesterday and got one of them fitted. Didn't get much done because of other committments. I need more free time... There's a list of things that still need doing. From memory: Add PCV to inlet and link this to brake servo Get an assortment of return springs and fiddle with with the carbs Connect headers up to existing system Make an oil pump priming tool Sort out MSD wiring and setup the distributor and test it will start the engine. Re-route both engine earth and starter motor power so they're away from headers. Am hoping I don't need to make up new cables. Fit timing cover, water pump etc and other front engine bits. Fab up kickdown bracket. Fab up on a lathe a large pin on carb lever for a Lokar cable to connect to. It's tight for space on the gearbox to get to the lever. Hopefully I don't need to drop the box. Start it up and have a beer...
