Has anyone modified these wee French sans-permis things? They are wee 2-seater cars, usually with a 2 cylinder diesel engine, and a top speed of under 50 kph. You don't need a drivers licence to drive one, so they are popular with old duffers and folk who have had drink-driving bans etc. They sound like badly-tuned lawnmowers, and struggle to shift up a hill if there are 2 people onboard. BUT. Some of them look quite funky. Engine swaps are a no-no in France, but registering one in UK should be possible? I stopped for petrol the other day and saw these lined up for sale. The wee truck is awesome! I have a real hankering to get one of these and stick a bike engine in it... I had a close look at one of the new Ligier ones. IRS all round, disc brakes all round (granted the discs and calipers are small by normal car standards) Some kind of tube chassis and a funky interior. Should lend itself to conversion relatively easilly.

Register one in the UK with a 200-odd bhp Kwak 1400 lump then take it across the channel to terrify the garlic-munchers.

Some people actually choose to drive these things in the UK, I've seen a few tootling about. Completely baffling! They cost as much as a "real" car too.

Yeah I've seen those Ligier efforts being driven over here too, usually by bewildered looking old chockers.
The pick-up is pretty funky... although I can't see the logic behind letting people with DD bans and no licenses get behind the wheel of one!? Strange, those French...

Its about as logical as taking someone's HGV licence (and hence livelyhood) for drink driving cos he was sitting on a minimoto at a barbeque party when the police turned up... I wonder if Bullett car man came across these things while doing his viability research

To get a standard A40 this low, you'd have to dig a hole to put it in

although I can't see the logic behind letting people with DD bans and no licenses get behind the wheel of one!? Strange, those French... I can! Some serial drunk/crasher/dullard hops in one when 3 sheets to the wind and bimbles off home, weaving at a max of 40mph. Ultra-flimsy design means that if he meets a 40-tonner he is going to get squashed. Problem solved. It's automotive darwinism.

Hang on...If you buy one in France and import it, it won't need SVA will it? Joys of the EU and all that...
