hi guys. looked at this forum many times. not signed up till the other week..... as this is a bit of a newbies thread I thought id tell you a bit about me and where I'm coming from first.... I'm a mechanic and tester in my late 20s, working at a vw audi specialist in sheffield. ive had many cars concidered to be retro in the past. I love '80s cars in general. including; '86 audi 90 2.2 quattro, '87 golf mk2 gti, two sciroccos 1800 carb scala + '90 scala inj., '89 audi 80 sport, '90 mk2 golf gtd. highlights..... anyway enuf about the past! after buying an e30 320i touring last year.... I thought id have a go at drifting....... I did 4 trackdays in my old golf gti couple of years back (croft, cadwell + snetterton). so I'm no stranger to chucking a car about. it was fun..... but wanted to build a car for the purpose...... after much searching I settled on an e21. bought one on ebay with a spare e30 325i engine..... the engine went in my touring...... but the work on the e21 was majorly more than expected...... WELDING!!! this is her..... this is all the work we have done (a mate of mine tom is my partner in this car who did 99% of all the welding). on the path to recovery. I have sh1t loads more pictures........ anyway theres other cool stuff weve done like the center exit exhaust, running fuel lines thru the car, I binned the solex carb and fitted late e30 motronic inj on the exsisting engine. re locating the battery in the rear seat base. I could go on for hours but I wont! weve done two drift practice days it it so far and its so good/easy to drift its untrue. at the moment I'm doing work to actually get it on the road, as so far we have trailered it to drift days but me and tom both want to drive it on a regular basis. I intend to post on here on a regular basis. comments welcome!! thanks.

Fair play guys, thats class in a glass! Excellent dedication welding that lot up. Also sticking the engine management on an older engine demands restecp. 17/10 WILL GO FAR

on the diff front, bearing in mind what the cars used for, and the silly price of bmw lsd,s for these cars only to get 25% lock up (in good order). welding the diff was the only option......... before you all start with the "you cant do that you'll understeer off the road into a group of nuns waiting at a bus stop"........ its not as bad as you might think to drive normally on the road, usual inside wheel hop and skip on tight turns. resistance to turning when parking etc. but no noticable initial understeer on turn in like many drift spec cars with welded diffs. at the end of the day you cant make skid marks like this with a knackard 25 year old lsd!!

id love to be good enough to enter in bdc, but unfortunatly my levels of disposable cash leave a little to be desired! lol. can just afford to go to a practice day every couple of months. also the car is fun but needs more power for 3rd gear corners....... plans are in my head for an m30 conversion. but they're just plans i have no funding for. realistic plans are for chipping the ecu and fitting a 325i throttle body. and getting it on the road..... I'm doing some welding on the front panel at the moment to get it up to mot standard then ill be putting it in for its test. got quotes for classic ins. of around the £200 mark...... theres a drifting day I'm guna be booking at barkston heath (javelin trackdays) on the 2nd of november. so these mods and mot plans will be put back another month by the cost of doing this drifting day (its trailer to practice day atm using my touring as tow car.......)

update.... well its now moted and on the road as of about 3 weeks ago!! drove it to a drifting day in south west wales two weeks ago........ had a whale of a time, drives and skids so well...... bar a rear shocker popping and the thing actually burning 4 litres of oil!! it survived.... ive done the shockers and today i bought a 325i engine out of an '88 e30 to drop in it!

It always surprises me when I see that amount of welding whenever I go on your threads, I've broken better! It's looking great and I hope to get my E21 sideways some time next year as well

thanks for the positive comments you guys!!
welding is welding... as long as your not paying someone else to do it, it doesnt really cost anything. plus id feel guilty for buying a mint e21 and gutting it out, skidding about and bouncing if off the rev limiter....... (now it has a rev limiter with the motronic i fitted!)
rob hows it coming along with those antiroll bars? theres no rush really, just asking! I think jim want a rear one too for his slug. so thats two rear ones and one front.........

I can defo do you front and rear, but not sure about Jim's yet. I've been busy with interviews and travelling the country lately, but should be on it later this week if it's not too cold!!
