Sorry if this is a pearost but seeing this covered on Top gear reminded me I have a link in my favorites and the cars are truly retro so should be of interest here. www.folkrace.nu/And so I don't get shot down for no pics, here are a few of the VW type 3's which appear to be quite a popular choice; Without wanting to start a big debate it seems to me that this is a far more interesting use of old cars than banger racing. Dave.

It's the claimer rule that keeps the cost down.
As far as "fun", "fun" doesn't correlate to "cheap" for everybody. I know some VERY serious dart throwers and skateboard racing gits. And bowlers....
I don't see anybody eating a sandwich in folkracer while cimcumlocuting the dirt track. They all look quite intense. I'll bet fights break out like Cale and Bobby all the time. "Hey, Smeltface! Didn't ya sees me up on yer wing?"

It's the claimer rule that keeps the cost down. Isn't there a dirt oval formula in the states that works the same way, or is that just the engine that can get sold.

And some for asphalt ovals, and it's been done for roadracing as well, in various classes and at various events. Not many will install a Cosworth DFV in a banger if the claim rule is at 2500 Georges. Or at least they won't have it past the first event... (PS, it's usually for the whole car. But there are some engine claimer races and classes as well, as where there is a spec chassis anyway, for example...)

Actually, this is the sport that have killed most retros, like Kadett Rallyes, Asconas, Volvo 544/120/140-series, Saab 96/99s, VWs and so on, in Sweden, and it still does... So I don't really like it TBH...

Looks fun, but its just banger racing without the crashing isnt it? It is actually a lot of crashing involved... That's the reason why the cars looks like raisins... It's almost impossible finding a type 3 VW in Sweden today because of this "sport"...
