Let me know the specs mate and I will knock up a few quick ideas.
As for floors, A solid concrete base will make for easier storage of engines, but I have skoda block sat on an engine stand in my cheep of the peg shed, and i have had not problems.
If you want insulation (its well worth it, my workshop is an insulated wooden shed and needs mininal heat, even in the winter to keep it warm) let me know as well and I will take that into consideration.

Ok Lewis123, ive gone out and measured up the available space I have (without taking the wee) and I can get away with....
16FT long, 8FT wide, 8ft at its highest point (the apex of the roof, which would run along the length of the shed) 6FT high doorways
Id like to divide the shed into two parts with an internal partition, one end 5ft worth of shed for storage with a door and no windows, the other end with a door and a couple of windows. The doors need to be on the same side with the 5ft storage segment on the left, and the workshop and windows on the right.
I have thought about the design, honestly! Sorry about the half arsedness of the description, I hope its decipherable!
The positioning of the doors and windows arnt that important, but they need to be on the same side.
I was going to send this message via PM but ive stuck it up here incase anybody else is interested (probably not though)

OK, run it past the wife and shes had a better idea on where it should go, this means that the smaller storage part and the larger workshop end need to be reversed, i.e workshop on the left, storage on the right.
Thanks alot for this Lewis123!

Ok well here is a really down and dirty quick sketch. The dimmensions are all a bit random, but its only a very rough quick idea. a layout and 3d view is that about what you thought? What sort of level of woodworking kit do you have? Lewis

That looks bang on to me, exactly what I was looking at building.
As far as woodworking kit, I don't have much. Wood drills, hand saw, did have a jigsaw until I broke it cutting tyres up. I can get hold of other stuff though. Ive got a handy father and the wifes Grandad is pretty good too.

Tim, OK, I will start to draw it up in CAD, and firm up window and door sizes a bit better. How wide do the doors need to be? I drew them there at about 800, which is just about the size of a standard internal door. Do they need to be wider for engine access etc? As for tools, I would suggest that minimum is a hand saw (a good one, go treat yourself ) an electric drill driver, a hammer, and maybe a reasonable chissel. Lewis

I'd say get a Compound Mitre Saw - saves a lot of manual labour and time when messing about with wood. :-)
I've a Bosch one that's been a god send for doing up my house but you can get one for £49.99 from Screwfix that you can sell on after the shed's built etc.

good advice there on the compound mitre saw.
You can set stops up so that all the studs can be cut to length without measuring each one.
depending on budget a cheep one would be well worth the money and time saving, although a new good quailty hand saw will make short work of the cutting but will take longer!

I think a a door dize of about 850mm would be fine, its wide enough to get a lawnmower through anyway and I wont we bringing anything in bigger than that. If the doors are larger, or I have double doors it eats up wall space that can be used for racking/workbenches e.t.c
Ive consulted "G-DAD-IN-LAW" and he recons the timberyard he used to work at can supply any timber I need, cut to size. They could even assemble sections in their yard so Id get the shed in flatpack form if required, I.e walls, roof e.t.c. They are flat as fook at the moment and laying staff off. Theyd welcome to work I would have thought.
Taken advice from a builder on the base as well. After convincing him I don't want a slab base, laid on 4 inches of sand he agreed a solid concrete slab would be ideal. He estimates that with the concrete and shuttering wood e.t.c its going to come to about £300 odd .Ive got an unlimited supply of hardcore so all I need to do now is empty out the existing shed, take it down and dig a BIG hole in the ground.

Solid base sounds good for about that much money!
I can pull a cutting list of CAD and so you can get it all cut to size, which again is a great idea and saves so much ball ache if you can get a good price!
I will also make wall panel layout diagrams, so again, if they can make the panels as well, you will end up with a custom flat pack shed! will be great if it works out!
p.s. I don't have my laptop with CAD on me at the moment, but I will grab it on monday and make a start. Shouldn't take more than a couple of hours on an off over the following days.

A freind built a shed workshop, looks like a timber frame except its made from 2x2 & 1x1 steel box section with wood panels attached. Much quicker to build than a timber frame & easy to make suitable for engine lifting duties I am looking into a double size garage/carport/workshop arrangement at the mo, got heaps of space for one & need one badly

Steel is another option, but generaly timber is cheaper and easier for a DIYer to do!
If engine lifting duties are required, the timber walls will be strong enough. just need a timber or steel beam.
CPTsideways - I would also be prepaired to design you a timber based garage or whatever if required.

Well Lewis, if you're offering up design work I have an idea for a mahoosive extension /rebuild of my current garage. Might need planning permission as I think it'll exceed 30 square meters! I need to get home and do some measurements! Would that be OK? Would your drawings be good enough for a planning application? Oh, sorry Tim for hijacking your thread!!

Hehe, happy to help all where I can. You know, Retro rides Karma goes around!! Right, here is the results of about an hours work. I have roughed out the design of the kit, and just need to do a few 3d exploded details to explain a bit more about what is going on. The frame is designed to use 38x89 mm timber (sounds an odd size, but a very common construction size and grade timber) If you can get hold of a different suitable size really cheap let me know, and I will resize the timbers. Here is little foundation to frame detail with a DPC to make sure the timber doesn't get wet, as well as a little overhang to help with rain splashback here is a plan of the walls here is an elevation of the front wall. you can see the doors, window, lintels over the openings and vertical studs etc. first draught of the doors design of the window frames with glass and external decorative bead bit Still working on the roof design at the moment finally an overview of all the drawings. you can get free .dwg views of the web, so I will provide the CAD files as well so you can zoom in on any details you want. Cutting lists and all dimmestions will be pulled off once the design is finalised! any comments so far as to the design. The doors are set to 850 mm wide (900 wide including door closing battens.
