I built this 8 x 12 shed a year or two ago. it cost £450 for the actual shed, I proberbly spent about £1000 in all. I put 5 tons of materials down for the base, about 2.5 tons of hardcore and about 2.5 of concrete (4" slab) don't forget to insulate the walls and roof and under the floor (polystyrene sheet) it makes a hell of a difference in winter (and helps keep your head cooler in summer) Also worth burying the (SWA) cable before you lay the slab so it can come up through the floor. Double doors are a bonus when lugging big stuff in and out. Good luck with it. Got the bench top for £30 from a trade supplier, it was a second, but was fine for the shed.

wow, thats excellent!
I hadnt really considered bothering with the polystyrene under the floor, how deep does it need to go?
Cant wait to get stuck in with this one. Maybe I should hire a mini digger?

Right, I have almost finished.
Any comments about timber sizes etc?
As for the base, A mini digger would be a major labour saver! As for the poly, there are a few different ways it can be done.
as for the poly in the base, there are pros and cons to adding it. If you put it too far down into the concrete base, the concrete above it will take so long to warm up, its not worth the hassle. If you put it near the surface then the load bearing capacity of the floor will be reduced.
If it were me I would make the concrete base solid and live with it uninsulated (the walls and roof will make a huge difference any way) , BUT at a later date you could install a layer of 25 mm polystyrene and 22 mm osb over the top and that should still be able to take the weight of an engine on a stand.
As I mentioned, I am almost there with the kit.

Timber size sounds fine to me, can anybody tell me the minimum gap I need to leave between the shed and the fence behind?

Not sure of any legel or building reg requirements when it comes to sheds, but access for maintainance might be a consideration.
Mine is 200 mm from the boundary. Just big enough to store curse word and get access with a brush on a stick if subsiquent treatment is required.

Well Lankytim I think i am done! Download a free DWG viewer (go on do it now) PM me your email adress and I will email you the autocad file. You can print from the free viewers, so you can print the layouts and lists and stuff to give to the timber yard. Ok so i finished the roof truss design off. A 3d view to show a little more detail I will also knock up some words to go with the drawings in a few minutes to help with building it. Windows Right so here are all the drawings and layouts to work from The layouts there are a few 3d details as well like this one below One of these is produced for each wall panel giving a plan, elevation, measurements and layouts and a list of parts required Some additional bits required A few simple instrucitons Some other bits A better look at the windows So there we go. PM me your email adress for the files and other info. If you spot anything you would like changing, or need more info on just holla! Lewis
