Can any 'geeks' help me sort this one please because it's driving me mad!!!!!
basically when clicking a googled linkk, something is causing it to redirect to sites other than the one you wanted..
Random redirected sites include ebay, car dealers, dating agencies, liposuction clinics.... and of course hardcore pr0n.
Firstly this is irritating when you are actually trying to google something sensible, and second because the little people in my house know how google works too, even my 3 year old, who knows if she just writes 'dora' in one of the boxes at the top, then clicks the first link she'll get dora explorer games a plenty. Except shes more likely to get to see some small chinese lady being violated by two large black men, or something. Highly undesirable.
My virus thingy (Norton) isn't picking anything up (not surprising, bloody useless!!) but regular sweeps with spybot etc are not getting shot either. HELP! Anyone know where this nasty lives, what it is and how I can get rid of it?
Your humble servant & computer loser,
Pog xxx

Should find most things, try ad-aware se from here: www.lavasoft.com/Norton is the spawn of satan and about as much use as the withdrawal method. Go here: service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039Then here: secure.eset.co.uk/forms/trial.asp and then PM me! If you are still struggling, I will connect to your PC over the weekend and sort it if you like! Rysz.

Yes Spybot S&D
Can you still get adaware SE from that link? I can't see it - is the AAW2008 the same / better / plums? I had Adaware SE installed but it went a bit squiffy and refused to update itself, so I binned it off a couple of months ago.
Also, I just bloody paid for another years Norton (at the behest of the domestic manager, who said the computer kept telling us to renew, so renew we should....)

Email Norton and ask for a refund on the basis that it is bloated and causing performance issues on your system.
Then take that money and buy Nod 32 instead.
Make sure that you have your search filter on google as well!
I am out tonight but should be available some stage over the weekend and I can connect and sort this out mate!
Rysz.

I had this. Or something like it. Only affected IE5 and IE6 as I recall. Theres a registry setting it changes. In the end I had to reformat the damn PC to get rid of it. Wasn't just Google either. I assume this is an update fo the same irritating thing.
I use AVG which is a decent AV product. You can get a selection of stuff like Spybot and the like which will alert you if something tries to update the registry.
Problem is a lot of this junk is sent round as links and stuff purporting to be other stuff (EG "Osama Bin Laden hanged video!!!!") and when you click to see it, it says "Media Player Needs to install a Codec to display this video" so you click OK, click Accept, over ride your security manually and - horray - you just installed a trojan.
Todays malware writers don't need to write clver code to bypass security, they get the users to do that for them. All they have to dois package thier stuff sufficiently temptingly that users will allow thier desire for the content to override their common sense about not just clicking OK to install extensions from unknown sources.

Superanti Spyware removes this from the off. Big fan of AVG, does exactly what it says and no f**kin around.
