well the lil jetta failed its MOT today. Well its the first one in 6 years
Mainly welding, but heres the list.
Nearside headlamp not working on main beam Offside rear brake pipe inadequately supported Offside rear (by beam mounting) Suspension component mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded (inside osr arch) Suspension component mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded.
The welding on the beam mounting is the arkward barsteward cause I may have to drop the rear axle., considering its sat for sometime I'm quite happy with what it has failed on, it could have been a lot worse.
Ten days and counting........

Alright shaun Good to see you giving the jetta some loving. Think it looks great, kinda how i had visioned doing it Bad news about the welding, did'nt think it would fail on such things as it a solid little car. All be worth doing though as it rocks! There's another jetta, same colour driving around my village by an old man. I stopped him to give my number lol. It looks straight as a die but has some random black tape in a couple of areas Hopefully he'll gimme a buzz.

That's not too bad a list really. My old seemingly solid Rocco had a similar list last year. If you do drop the rear beam, soak the securing bolts in WD40 or similar for at least a week beforehand, and pray they don't snap when you undo em, and I'd recommend replacing the axle bushes while you're at it, so you don't have to bother dropping it twice. I've still got the burns from when I did mine:

The weldings nothing major lee just two small patches no bigger than an inch or two I noticed them both when fitting new brake lines no dramas got my welding man on it at the weekend hopefully ??.....by next weekend she'll be street legal.
Thanks for the advice Tom, I ordered some more bushes today.

The offending, Tin worm. welds being laid tomorrow hopefully, the studs you see are the mounts for the rear axle. New bits, powerflex bushes for the rear axle thought i'd replace them seems as the axle is off. New brake lines made up ready to go. And two new rear wheel bearings. All goin on tomorrow, ready for the retest on tuesday or wednesday. .......then i'll actually have a MK1 to drive again through the summer, then i'll concentrate 100% on the caddy.....

Well she's street legal now so have been out and about lots now the good weather is here. Still got a few niggles to sort out. A genuine sunroof The carb needs a tune up. Exhaust blows Install a wireless/tune box. And a pair of new wishbones. Maybe some wood beaded seat covers ? Also I think i'm gonna break my mk1 gti soon so the engine may find its way into the jetta ? And i'm also considering some new wheels, dunno yet though, it just seems to lack something ?? A few pics from today :music:

^^^^^ that is sweet mate, where did you get the louvre from ? I want one. Well I swapped the 14's for some 13's the other week. (cheers robodredd) Gave em a refurb and a fresh lick o shiny paint. Shes low....... but she looks how I wanted now.... still got a few wiring niggles to sort out just the stereo, interior light, cigarette lighter. Probably a fuse but I have found some suspect wiring, which I'll sort out soon.

That's lovely mate! The black of the wheels seems to drown out the whole design of the steel etc... I reckon Nimbus Grey will work well on the wheels. Oh and I was quite loving that Zender spoiler to be honest!

Funny you mentioned that, as i did consider a lighter colour than black and did think greys !! but i already had the paint so black it was.
In time they will no doubt change. I still have the spoiler just not got round to fitting it yet.
Thanks all the same lex

I saw this today, just pasted Bayston Hill, heading towards Shrewsbury, looks nice, seems a bit bouncy to me though, each to their own though, I was coming the other way in my white T5 estate.
Wasn't you that I was chatting to the other week in Unipart was it?

That would have been me in bayston hill, good eyes. It's a tad bouncy/stiff but after the big rush to get the new booties on I forgot to adjust the coilovers, won't be able to adjust it much though as I don't really have much ground clearance. Wasn't me in unipart, don't even know where it is.
