so my friend is new to this old car malarky, so i took him maccess today to hook him up with some service parts. anyway, after the usual banter about how he doesn't get many people in for these parts the catalogue was showing nothing before mk3 cortina.
so i thought i'd have a flick through the magazine for anything else that might have a pre x in it, anglia, mk2 tina, etc and there was NOTHING.
my question is, what do you do for parts like these? the oldest i've ever had to worry about were crossflow's and so on which are everywhere.

What service bits is he after? The only real service items on my 'tina are oil filter, plugs and fluids. Oil filters are common to loads of cars (unless its still got a replacable element type) so if you take in the old filter (messy I know) they will be able to match it at any motor factors. Plugs - likewise (buy NGK ones) Fluids are obviously the same as modern stuff so readily available. Points and condensors are a little more tricky (so replace them with electronic ignition ;D) but again are common to plenty of cars - you could take a photograph in with you. You could try Speedy Spares in Hove near brighton who do mail order for old stuff. Try looking at www.buysellcortina.co.uk which has a list of cortina related suppliers which might help.

yeah it was ignition components i was really looking for, points, condenser, rotor arm etc as it all looks like it hasn't been changed in years ;D i really need a 'classic friendly' autofactors, they are becoming harder to find, even in brum

You can get all the parts in Halfords if you get desperate. Same as crossflow parts so Escort, Cortina, Capri etc...
