At the last place I worked we very nearly got round to plonking one of these onto a shortened Range Rover V8 chasis. The only reason we didn't was because the A35 was far too good to chop about and someone bought the Range Rover, lol. I'm more for the idea of an old 4x4 on the Impreza floorpan. WIN!

My old baby.... regret selling this big time... That looks really well built to me, the proportions and ride height are spot on. Some of the 4x4s featured here look like total bodges and look terrible! Build one well and youll enter the WIN hall of fame. How about a reliant robin/rialto/regal? Nice and light fibreglass and easy to chop about and mount on another chassis.

It was absolutely rock solid, I put a few patches on it to tidy it up, but it was brilliant.
Cant believe I sold it, Although I did replace it with an RX7 Powered Skoda Estelle.

This thread is really getting my imagination working....need more space, better welding skills...more money..... and here's some more things I've been looking at Can't help but think someone should fit a Rover Streetwise body onto a LR90 chassis and give it real off road ability!!

wow some great motors there , tbh i think I'm going the allegro route , have found one thats parked up with no t&t and seems quite solid , put a note on the car so hopefully will get a phone call , I already havea vitara chassis and axles outside the workshop so thats sorted . Better get my ass in gear and get the avenger finished then start on some more motoring mayhem .

Yep Tattoo'd I used to drive past your place and have a drink at the Star inn just to see what project you had parked outside at the time. Havent seen anything there for a while? Would a Mk1 Mr2 fit an Sj chassis? Or what about a Rover 214/6? You should have stopped mate , kettle was always on in that house , I moved out about a year ago when i split with the missus so thats why theres nothing there anymore , do ya remember the 4x4 clubman ?

I owned it around 4ish years ago, It came from Haslemere in Surrey, not Kent...
Previous owners family had a steam-powered car collection worth some serious cash.

What about a retro Porsche Cayenne, made with a 924 WIN!!!!! And how about making it look a bit 'factory' rather than having wheels/running gear look like it's been stolen from the Forth Bridge!!

I'm not really a fan of these to be honest, theres no extra ground clearance over whatever the chassis is from because of the diffs. I like the idea but it rarely works well imho.
I think the main problem is that to raise the diffs, you need to fit much bigger wheels/tyres, which then means you have to either lift the body more, or cut out the arches. Imo it also looks silly when there's a huge gap between chassis and body.
To do a proper one, you'd need to use portal axles, and then it could be VERY cool indeed, and a huge amount of fun off road and on road. ;D
And on the idea of doing it the other way round, I'd love to build a Mk1 Discovery with Scooby running gear, or even a very highly tuned 300TDI engine (i.e over 400bhp if possible) ;D

Silly body on 4x4?
