Toledos confuse the bejesus outta me - weren't they FWD and RWD or something... depending on spec... or did I dream it?
As for the ovlov - how about an ungainly looking track-day weapon?! ;D

Toledos confuse the bejesus outta me - weren't they FWD and RWD or something... depending on spec... or did I dream it? 1300 / 1500 were RWD. Then came the Toledo which was FWD. But looked the same. And also the Dolly, which looked similar, but was RWD.... I think that's right... Christ knows what they were on at Triumph at the time.....

Oops. I should have checked first.... It would appear early 1300/1500's are FWD. Some look a bit like Dolly's, some a bit like Toledo's (all have Toledo style rear)..... and that later The Toledo & Dolomite were launched with re-engineered shell featuring rwd. There's a full explanation to be found at www.austin-rover.co.uk

Even thats wrong! Only toledos and fwd 1300's have a toledo-style (vertical lights) rear! from the outside, the fwd 1500's are identical to the rwd1500/dolly! mental! Anyway they're all fugging GREAT.

Well the story goes, I put up an wanted add on the Dolomite owners club some time ago, last week I got a call from the nephew of an old couple who had recently passed away leaving all there worldly positions to him and his sister. Looking through the old couples finances the nephew has found that they had ferreted away ½ a million so he was quite happy to let the cars go so cheaply. The old bloke was and engineer by trade so the car is immaculate. My mate and i were offered the Volvo when the nephew saw the ratty 740 we had turned up in. ;D The Volvo is a top of the range 2.0 which is in similar condition to the Toledo except for a bit of rust on the doorsnot sure what we are going to do with it but if we hadn't saved it the scrap man was coming to collect definatly offten to be found out side the Hole in the Wall ;D No way the micras staying! now it can become a project this confused me a little i was expecting a 2 door. But it is definatly rear drive. As far as i know all Dollys were 4 door.

hehe there's only one way to check if it's rear-drive or not.... and it involves the gravel driveway of a posh local resident (or you could look underneath but that's no fun)

Good choice, I've always liked the Toledo, and yes the Toledo, like the Dolomite, is RWD, whearas the earlier 1300 is front wheel drive. You'd expect it to be the other way round, that the conventional RWD came first and they changed to an unusual FWD layout later, but it's the opposite, they went with RWD later, and actually I reckon it was a good choice! The Volvo sounds interesting too, even if you can't keep the two, that 340's an ideal project, as has been said a 940 turbo's engine would go in there with ease!

Oh yeah that reminds me... I have a starter motor from a Triumph 1300 somewhere.... dunno if it'll fit the Toledo 1300... or if you need one for that matter... don't even know why I have it... ;D
