The x-flow never sat right, never trusted it. All that became very clear when we came to take it out, the place that did the conversion for me bodged it royaly. As soon as the mount was released (which was a game and half even tho they missed out a bolt) the offside of the engine shot fwd to where it SHOULD have sat, they had it on the twist using the wrong mounts (idealy a mk1 xflow shouldnt be in a mk2). Gave is a right game to get out!
Further more, i got bored of going everywhere like a nutter, stopping for petrol at every garage and paying high band road tax.
I enjoyed the 1100 more, alot more fun despite half the power. Plus it was uber quiet believe it or not that 1100 used to put some brand new cars to shame with the little amount of noise. Used to be its party piece! lol
1100 reminded me of the good times, aswell i've grown up, my saff and retro rides has shown me u don't need a fast car to have a good car! Power aint my thing and on a side note, if i wanted to go fast, a mk2 fiesta would scare the poo out of me! lol I'd make a fast car out of summut with a little more substance! lol

I didnt hold the thorttle open, never said owt about doing that, I do have a breather pipe disconected anyway on the inlet so enough air can get in It's actually extremely important to hold the throttle wide open when doing a compression test, as that will strongly affect the results. Also, make sure that your battery is capable of cranking the engine at full speed for at least 10 seconds per cylinder to make sure you get a good reading. Nice of them to put that in the instructions Not to worry, done some poking about, found a 42,000 mile engine complete ready to drop in that was removed 2 weeks ago for £40! I'm just gonna have to bite the bullet, buy my self an engine crane and fit that. After watching Si do it last time, and the fact we aint connected everything back up yet anyway I'm pretty confident i can do it (famous last words eh)

Well that's a development
I tried the redex thing, left a load soaking in the bores and inlet over night, Turned it over without the sparkplugs to clear it out, made a good old mess LOADS of black s**t all over the place out the bores and straight away with the compression tester the numbers were up as high as 14bar.
Re-fitted plugs and gave it a crank.... it's trying! Really trying, battery died and stopped play, on charge, try again tomorrow! don't want to speak too soon, but this just might work!

Excellent - compression is one of three things that the engine needs. The other two are the right amount of fuel and a good hot spark at the right time - so check the ignition timing, plugs gaps etc. before running down the battery tomorrow. Try various choke/throttle settings, obviously.

Yeah plugs are good to go, Timing is about as good as I'm gonna get it til it's running, helps that it's trying to start, spose a suffering battery would reduce spark power so fingers crossed for tomorrow

I'm off down the dealers tomorrow order some bolts (a few are past their best and best to replace)
Then this weekend while it's still fairly mild I'm gonna crack on, try and get the engine bay cleaned up before i start putting things back in (Redex everywhere lol) Treat a few rust spots and paint hammerite ftw!

Welllllllllllllllllll, it only took ford 2 weeks to get my bolts, rare it would seem. anyway I have (most of) them now. Some were discontinued. The rest I fetched today from a scrappers and the crazy bolt lady.
Got my new thermostat housing, one joker on ebay wanted £10 plus post for a second hand one, but by chance I found a brand spanking NOS one £4.50 to my door! So that's on, Fan switch is as old as god himself and wouldnt come out the thermostat housing from the 1600 so hell with it, a new one, why not!
Today I managed to get a hell of a lot done in just two hours thanks to SWMBO on the Paintbrush (cross member needed a lick of hammerite). Got my mk1 1100 water pipe I needed FOC from a XRTwo.com member! Big bonus there, fitted that today, with water pump, alternator brackets and alternator, *hope* i've managed to fix the fuel leaks will find out tomorrow when I start it up again.
Plans for tomorrow, Fit fan switch, exhaust downpipe (properly with gasket and gumgum this time), Rest of bolts I nicked from scrapper (just a few engine/gearbox ones), K&N goes on, Radiator goes in, finish plumbing, fill, check for oil/fuel/water leaks! Purchase exhaust and if there is time, fit exhaust!
Rubdown some of the engine bay areas for a fresh blast of paint, Fill holes where stutbrace was, I'm selling both the strut braces sod it so they'll go up for sale.
I've also decided, I'm going for a "Greenday" theme'd engine bay! Not mad, just a few touches! ;D
Should be able to get MOT'd and give a bit of a tidy up. Might give that a while to have a break and get xmas/Sierra's MOT out the way first. Still a few bits I need to track down for the fiesta aswell just to do away with a few "Future issues" before they start.
OH and i've found some slightly rare X-pack twin carbs for sale for the 1100, full kit, so when my 1600 Engine sells if he still has em for sale I might just have to do that thang!

Got some pics this time as i managed to get rad in and cooling system back together!: Just gotta fit an exhaust when it arives the old one is rotten after 5 or more years in the garage. My mate Owain showed up halfway though Still a few niggly things, I want to re-route the fuel pipe cause it's catching on the throttle cable, sort out why heater aint working now, think it's got an airlock. Made a small vid too! little noisy cause there is no exhaust yet, and downpipe clamp is rattling about. Almost there, cant wait! Also chuffed that although i had to push her out the garage this morning, i was able to reverse it back in under its own power! ;D ;D ;D ;D

Well got exhaust, fitted it, had to put new rubbers on cause i had Polyurethane ones and i had no hope of getting it back on those, With the proper rubber ones it went on a treat!
Just waiting for the DVLA now to hurry up with my log book so i can get it MOT'd and taxed! (well, welded first)

Well it's been a while, after much agro with the DVLA doing their upmost to cause me greef for dropping a tax band the logbook finally got changed, and is now an 1100 again! Then it sat, and sat. Til Last Thursday when i booked it in for MOT! Which went as expected, failed on handbrake (the cable was jamming so had been disconnected from one wheel). Cable change fixed that. Also the 3 50p sized welds required in the floor! They also changed the oil and filter for me, and did the ignition timing.... putting a 5p sized hole in the dizzy cap for me, thanks lads! lol I would have refered to it as a "dranage hole" if it wasnt on the top! lol So anyway, i scurried off down the post office for my cheap rate road tax! Then promptly ditched the saff in the lock up and rocked home in the Fiesta! Next morning..... new spark plugs and dizzy cap i think are in order hmmmm, that's strange..... ohv dizzy cap fitted in 30 seconds flat. Never usually goes that well for me! Summuts gonna go wrong... 1....2....3 spark plugs SNAP! Stud extractors FTW! That was close, i thought i was in for it then! Time then, to return the interior to standard spec! So i took the front seats apart and chucked the swabs in the washing machine! ;D Worked quite well, but there were a couple of really stubborn marks that wern't gonna shift! Anyway, Door cards back in My steering wheel ;D Scavaged some rear speaker mounts from a mate who's breaking an XR2, Rivots are ftw, 5 seconds out, 10 seconds to re-fit So I'm gonna need some 10cm speakers, nothing fancy. £10 free postage brand new off ebay 24 hours to my door! Rest of interior can go back in now Sadly there is a lot of age/sun bleaching and discolouring on the seats and plastics i cant do anything about. Guess it's part of owning old cars! lol Just missing a parcel shelf now I'm chasing a few tho, have to be a grey one, i'll just paint it! So anyway! Managed to get a XR2 solid rear panhard rod, and underbonnet sound proofing pannel from my mates xr2 he's breaking Half painted the sound proof pannel in that pic. Finished painting it, tried to fit it, broke most the clips, now waiting for more clips ;D Rear panhard rod went in a lot easier tho ;D Some of u prob know, the standard ones were "U" profile metal and prone to snapping after 20 years or more, even more so once cars are lowered! So that's one less issue waiting to happen. Just need to buy a new stereo, awaiting new engine mount cause it's noisy, engine banging around like u wouldnt believe. I think this don't help, 34ibf weber. It aint a throttle anymore, it's an on/off switch! Couple of bits of paint to touch up aswell as underseal. Clean underbonnet and try and detail it to look half as decent as it did with the 1600 in there. Also got a CV gaitor keeps coming lose to secure. Petrol cap seal is leaking Find and paint parcel shelf... Then just drive it!, think mixture is gonna want tweaking as times goes on, we'll see!

Looking good with the cleaned up interior, I've just had to clean up a muddy old XR2 interior to fit in my newly aquired Quantum. Drop me a PM if you get stuck for a parcel shelf or any other bits, there are still a few Mk2 fiestas kicking around my local scrappies.
