blasting media..where from ?

i fancy getting some glass beads and having a go at blasting some alloy bits n bobs

where could i get some glass beads (or other medias ) for sensible £££££££

There is /was a place in Braintree that did shot blasting . He also sold the beads etc at one time . Dunno the name of it ,but it was/is on the Springwood Industrial Estate. BTW do Frost sell it?

Perhaps the guy I spoke of is the same one at Gosfield nowadays? A mate does wheel refurbishment,and offered to take my wheels to a blaster local to here ,must be somewhere in Braintree where I am.

Machine Mart sells it , but the blasting i do myself at home i just use kiln dried block paving sand , cheap as chips

Last time we bought that kiln dried stuff at work ,it was very cheap ...gotta be worth a go Steve?

Ya prob knows, but sand needs masks/gear and keep the dust away from other people. Silicosis and things.

Kiln dried is what i used as well, you can siv it and reuse it if you have a cheap blaster but it tends to block up occasionly

well my plan was to get one of those huge plastic tubs with the lid and some marigolds to make up a little blast cabinet

i wanted to freshen up some stuff like alloy rocker covers etc ...would kiln dried sand do the job ? make em look new?

i don't really wana spend much ££ on it really

Kiln dried sand ALL the way.

I use it all the time for rust removal (at high pressure) and texturing/finishing at lower pressures.

Works a treat and is SOO cheep. About £4-£5 for a 25 kg bag from my local B&Q

As for blast cabinet

I used a old set of kitchen draws. I took the draws out and got one of them huge clip frames for a few quid. Take the plastic and duct tape it to the front. Then get a tea cloth, cut an arm sided hole in the middle and sew (yeah get the mrs to do that) some velcrow round the edge, then glue/staple velcrow to the open top of the cabinet.

lay it on its back and look in the 'top' though the glass.

Open the verco, put the part in then close it , stick your arm and the gun though the whole and blast away.

I have stipped wheels, beaded rocker covers and done all sorts of bits and bobs.

just scoope the sand back out and fill up the gun every so oftern.

what section is the kiln dried in at the diy centers? the stuff used for cementing?

Think they use it to fill in block paving gaps?
