Right..... I've got a spare rear sub frame for my Sierra, I'm getting the diff welded (so I can kill some Kittens) the problem is the diff I got off the donor car has the flange type drive shafts with discs and my Sierra has the push in type with drums. Originally I wanted the rear disc too and was going to swap the whole lot over, but I now realise rear discs aint that great and I want to keep the drums. My first thought was to swap the drive shaft and diff over on to my old rear beam, but I've been informed that the hubs have a different no. of splines! Is it possible to remove the rear discs and simply bolt the drums to the new sub frame? Sorry if this all seems like dutch Robin ;D

Robin, why not swap the whole subframe? Quick and easy, it's only something like 6 bolts and the propshaft from memory - that's how we did my Sierra when I put a Cosworth LSD on it a few years ago.
Ahhhh so you want to keep the drums.... my mate did this when he fitted my LSD to an XR4i to retain the drums but I can't for the life of me remember how he got it to fit. I remember he had issues though.

Can you not use the drum type hubs / bearing carriers with the bolt on type stub axles? No idea, i've only dealt with the disc type bolt on setup on my locost!

The stub axles are different unfortunately. There were a few cars with bolt-on shafts and drums, but not in this country. I only learned this last week, and didn't really believe it until I saw the pictures! Edit: BTW, rear discs FTW IMHO! Unless you want to use the handbrake on the move....
