Picked this thing up on Sunday from Scotcius. It had been up for sale but was in an accident and was in danger of being cubed. Here at Lankytim towers we never let a good Agg get put to sleep....
Today I got to work with the porta-power, which is a 10 ton hydraulic ram used for bodywork repairs.
The damage didnt look too bad initially but on closer inspection the inner wing had a slight kink in the middle and was crumpled where it met the front panel. The damaged wing was cut away and the porta-power used to push the damage back out. As the metal was stretched I massaged the creases and dents out with a hammer and dolly. Noisy but strangely theraputic work! The front panel is fortunately rust free and was pulled and bashed back into shape without falling to bits. The most difficult part was getting the apeture right for the front grille. Its still not 100% but everything lines up alright now. Ill have to have another crack at it when I have more time.
You have to understand, this is an amateur job. Yes its a bit wrinkly but it will have to do!
Inner wing damage, note the kink half way along... nasty.
The damage is slowy eased out.
Inner wing stretched back into shape-ish.
Outer wing cut away to allow access to inner wing for some tin bashing.
Inner wing bashing complete
Ready for its new wing!
Damaged stuff to be binned off and replaced.
Theres areas of rust and bodgery round the rest of the car but nothing too drastic. The rear end of the outer sills have been welded but whoever did it must have been metally ill.
Rust
Bodgery
You may have noticed an omission from the engine bay. The previous owner kept it for his mini! Thanks to Alan Wilson of the Allegro club this situation should be rectified in the near future. Thanks Alan!
Next step is to do some welding repairs to the slam panel area and a few patches and replace the wing. Then just add the engine and box and off we go!
