got my aldi blaster ready to go in the morning , I'm planning to blast several alloy bits n bobs from the engine bay to freshen up the looks
thing is alloy bits fester after a while...i was wondering if a light coat of wheel silver or something would keep the same look but stand up a bit better?

I never painted any of my alloy bits after sand blasting. They still look OK. I'll see if I have any pics.

Hi, is this the DiY baking powder set up? be very interested in seeing before, during and after pics please. I reckon long term you would need to protect the finish, maybe silicone spray/polish to stop it going furry. Mike

a light coat of silver would keep it nice, Most of my alloy I spray with wd40 on a regular basis so moisture doesn't get a look in.

I take it this is the Aldi 'spot blaster'?
My dad picked one up for me the other day, along with the air die grinder thing, bargainous £13.50! Any idea what the air consumption on it is?

yeah its the aldi spot blaster, ive taken the spot nozzle off and purchased a huge plastic tub and some long gloves
not sure if the media thats included is suitable for alloy bits really , but I'm trying not to spend unless i have to
i figured a light coat of silver would look more or less the same but keep the weather out a bit

Guess if bead blasted the pores are more sealed, so the finish will last longer. Depends also what they're like to start with - rough/more porous/more likely to hold mank, or smooth.
Few yrs ago I tried a wheel silver from the local paint shop, and it sucked majorly unfortunately. Thin, brittle, and not keen that to stick to things. Bound to be better stuff out there though. Used POR20 on several things. It's not perfect but looks good, easy to re-do but being matt it does mark up easily. Best sprayed, it gives quite a bright finish.
