posting on behalf of my friend, but i'm sure he will be along soon enough to carry it on ;D anyway, the lookout for a retro ended with an ebay purchase: which once the hideous minilites were sold it worked out a pretty good price for a relatively tidy mk1 cortina well, it seemed like a good buy until EVERYTHING ignition wise packed up and it wouldn't start no matter what we changed ;D so instead of working out the issue like a sensibly pair of automotive engineers, the only logical choice persued www.driftworks.com/forum/parts-sale-private-sales/80335-4age-engine-carbs-twin-mikuni-carbs.htmlthen a few more purchases were made, gearbox, clutch, flywheel plus some service parts, and bolts cleaned to look like: should take a lot less time than the escort as it's on carbs and theres no real modifications as to how the engine has to run, we just have to physically get it all in the engine bay. plus this time theres the luxary of a garage, albeit a garage in a student house ;D i'm sure he will be along shortly to account for his own actions

Ooh lovely. Gonna be a sweet motor when that's finished Kind of like minilights myself, but something different won't change the fact that its a nice looking car.

Modern rims on a car that just look wrong in most cases, whatever you put on please make them fit in with the general look of the car. Some Lotus steels (banded standards?) with chrome hub caps would be ideal.

Some Lotus steels (banded standards?) with chrome hub caps would be ideal. lotus steels are such a terrible choice too ;D such a well trodden route, like I said, some turbos: or some E50's life is too short to be bored senseless by 4 spokes / revo's / lotus steels / minilites etc etc yaaaaaaawn, i'm sure the .de will throw me up something pretty in the long term, although i've got a surplus of purdy wheels he could always borrow from me if the situation arose, my BBS RS's would tuck quite nicely on that, failing that there are always my three spokes ;D JP yes you did, however the AGE was a mere twinkle in the eye at that point, it took me a few more weeks of persuading before the wheels went into motion ;D

Love the stance in those pics. I'm a fan of the "boring" wheel choices but agree that this would look the absolute nuts on E30's!! Plus it'll mix it up a bit!

T50 toyota box from a corolla AE86, you can use a ford type 9, the conversion parts are readily available, but both need custom prop and engine mounts so it doesn't really matter which one, and this way we get to use an off the shelf clutch and flywheel so it worked out cheaper. plus it's a smaller box, and the ratios are a lot better.
plus it's hydro but easily swapped to cable, which has been done but we've all the parts to convert it back to hydro if and when we choose to do so.

Love the car mate, plans for it sound good too, hopefully i'm going to be surprised and find a different set of wheels will look better than the Minilites although I think they suited it pretty well tbh

I'm no expert on this but I think that the T50 Toyota box is considered to be crappy even by Toyota enthousiast... If you have another option you might want to take it. Ask TheDoctor or have a look at AEU86.org.

the T50 seems really nice, firm movement, well made, bellhousing has inclusive hydraulic clutch. we will see what it's like when it's in. anyway, some more pictures: well it started last night. not much happened, i come over we looked at things, i took some pictures. i looked at the sketchy inner wings looked at the engine and give the car a little goosey turned up the next day, running TINGZ so first thing was to get the engine in, to see whats in the way, and how stuff was going to work. turned out it would be easier to mount the engine on the chassis instead of the crossmember, so out with the angle grinder, i think i need to add that at this point my pal who owns the car dissapeared for a bit of casual shopping in town and left me with the all the work ;D before: After: then the old gearstick needed welding up, so in the true JDM spirit of this conversion i welded in a JDM fashion from: to: so the engine was put in to work out where i needed to reinforce the chassis rails for the new engine mounts that we've to fabrimacate i left him with a list of tasks to get on with, while i come back and cough and sneeze up aluminium dust for the next few days
