Well, this one took some time to do....
Pretty much because I ended up moving about 10 tons of soil, and building non approved shorings for the soil I was carrying in.
The job started very innocently.
Remember this ?? 13th March 2008.
When I started seeing Nicola her garden was being overgrown from outside her property, and when I started clearing a 2 foot strip behind the fence, I found the BMX bike above.
In my typical style, 2 foot has now progressed to being 12 plus foot, a shed and a strip for veggies, and a whole big chunk of new garden.
The houses are on a 45 degree slope, behind an old quarry, and there is a light industrial estate in there. Between the estate and houses runs a 10 metre strip of wild bush which is "no mans land"
At first the strip of 2 foot became just 5 foot of cleared land, then I thought , level it off, by building a bit of shoring using bits of rubbish collected everywhere .
The neighbours had been digging out the back yard to get a lower terrace for some time before, so I discovered a perfect supply of rubble/lime stone tc to redig and load into carrying Truggs and then backfilling behind Nicola's fence.
I hope the pics give an idea of the work that has gone into it.
This was also where I directed my MOJO most of my free time last year.
Started taking pics way too late.
But here we are, some months into my little project.
Outside view.
Note the size of the garden at this point.
As time progressed...I got more grandiose ideas ;D
Got some sleepers from Nicola's brother, delivered in the street, had to carry them one by one through the house, down the back of the place, and lob over the fence.... trust me, numbers 10, 11 , 12 , 13 were no fun,and got to be pretty heavy.
The plan was to plant two upright, with one mounted accross and then the rest of them resting on the embankment I built and on the timber supports.
On top of this was to go a 6x6 timber shed, to be built in place
Found a "Slow worm 2 foot down into the hillside.
Getting tired...
Actually ; KNACKERED ;D
Some genius to make a recess in the sleeper to fit around corner post. (Well, Nicola thought it was clever)
First fence panel out to start building shed.
Oh, and it was a windy day, and as usual I was not patient enough to wait for Nicola to get home to help me hold up the bits while I screwed it together.
RESULT !!!!
Fence moved, space.... not a frontier.
Outside view at the time
Shed shaping up
At this point I got Nicola involved in the labour side of things again.
We ordered 4 tons of "Top soil" delivered on the front pavement.
We carried the whole lot through in a morning, and did it with buckets and I used the green Trugs like before... straight through the foyer, lounge and kitchen accross the back yard, down the stairs....
Resulting in this:
Of course, as is customary, I have been making the space even bigger, and this is what the outside looks like now.
Plants, compost and loads of soil enricher, bricks, stones, pebbles and rocks bought from nurseries, and picked out of skips, fly tip sites and anywhere else inbetween has taken us to this point.
Picture taken a couple of hours ago.
I think I have a happy woman on my side right now.... ;D
