Well, I was actually hoping to hang onto this one for a while, but alas things have taken a turn recently with my personal circumstances, so it's going to go.
I'll try to keep it short and sweet. Underneath it is unpatched with original floors. The bodywork has had work done on it though. It's had new sills at some point and in my ownership it's had a Genuine Heritage Castle section spliced in on the passenger side. I've put Stainless splash shields on and the inner wings are pretty kosha and again unpatched/unmolested. Doors, tailgate and bonnet (these easily go into the £100s to change on an MGB secondhand) are all fine. Door shut gaps and bonnet gaps are all fine. It does still have some original features on it like a BL Sticker on the rocker cover, a commission number etc.
Interior is also fairly good with no cracked plastics, or ripped seat covers. Seat covers, trim, dash top (the bits that cost money on a B) are all pretty good for the age with near enough no distortions. It also comes with relatively new rubber overmats with the original mats present in the footwells. The plastic bits seem to be devoid of the usual cracks too, and the vinyl covered trim panels are spot on.
Drivetrain is pretty good. Engine holds good oil pressure (about 65-70Psi when cold at idle, about 60 when running (and warm) and around 45Psi at idle when fully warm), doesn't smoke either and has the more demanded 12H2709 'Big Valve' Head which lends itself well to tuning. I've just given it a service with new filters, P&C, oil etc. Starts first time and drives without making a racket and pulls cleanly.
Overdrive works with the inhibitor working in 2nd and 1st (I daren't try Reverse LOL) with gearbox being crunch and noise free, with the same applying for the axle. It's had new waterpump via the previous owners, a Borg & Beck Clutch and at some point in its life, I'm fairly sure it's had another rad. I put on a new Genuine heater valve as the old one was leaking.
Outside is where things are let down a bit. It could do with some work on one arch (it will come with a panel for that side to allow you to repair it). Some say it could do with a respray but I'd personally only paint the bits that need doing which isn’t an awful lot. It needs two new front wings but again I'll supply a Passenger side wing in white in good condition. On the plus side the chrome work is in tip top shape, devoid from pitting, with the bumpers being stainless items and the other bits of chrome generally being in very good condition.
Wheels are refurbed Rostyles with 4 tyres, all having as new tread on them (8mm).
So for the people who skipped all of that:
-54,000 Miles with LOTs of MOTs and history going back to the mid '70s
-Engine service
-Stainless Steel exhaust.
-New N/S Castle Section, Outrigger and Jacking Point
-Stainless Splash panels
-New Genuine Heater Valve with new Heater Hoses.
-Cooling system flushed and refilled with fresh coolant.
-New Track Rod Ends and Steering gaitors.
-Recon Rostyles with 4 Mint tyres
-Stainless Bumpers
-New rear rebound strap
-New rear exhaust hanger
-New rear sill fillers – Sills fine inside when I fitted these on(read on)
-New outer sills put on in 2003.
-12 Months MOT
-Parts supplied include 1 Front Wing (in White) and a rear ¼ panel repair panel (half wing).
This is one classic which IMHO will not require an absolute fortune to turn into a tidy daily runner, which is reflected in the price. As you can see, I have taken care of the service items. I would like to see this car tidied a little, but used on a regular basis as it has been and why it is IMO still in good shape.
I would like around £1500ono. I have just put 12 Months MOT on it, which it passed without too much difficulty (It needed a new wiper blade and rebound strap to pass).
I will get more pics of the underside as it really is pretty tidy underneath.
