Or thereabouts. ;D Double revs: not likely. Twin rotor engines don't have a bearing between the front and rear rotors, which is why you can't reliably take them past 8k or so pre the RX-8. I'm not familiar with that quad rotor job, but the really fat centre plate makes me think there's a bearing in there. I'd say it'd go to 8 or 9k pretty nicely, which is not to be sneezed at.  |

I thought you'd like it. Lots of various 3 and 4 rotor engines havce built..from 12As to 13bs. and yep- theres the 20b triple as standard and then the various 26 configurations.
But not many have built 4 rotor engines by simply bolting two engines together. It requires the eccentric shafts on both to be modified to fit together and then make a plate to bolt the end plate from front engine to the front plate on rear engine. sweet!
I wasnt aware of the rx8 13b having a centre bearing? I don't think thats the case-in fact its not too disimular to the engine from a series 6 rx7.
What helps that engine rev higher is the fact that the exhaust ports are moved from the rotor housings to the plates so becoming side ports- this allows for better overlap on the port timing- just like cam timing... hence better breathing whilst keeping within emmisions regs.
Another thing uprated is rotor gears- much harder and stronger so not distorting at high revs.
The engines that have been custom built in the states for full on racing and that have a centre bearing installed with specially machined E shaft are revved beyond 13,000 rpm I believe!!!

Its not much point on a stock 12A or 13B going beyond 7000 as power drops off- but it is fun!!! My 12A always sees 8000 as its so easy to get there- i don't know how long it'll last but it sounds great and is bl--dy fun! ;D 12As do seem to rev a little bit better but i don't think there would be sod all difference really.
