Ive been waiting for the V5C for this Agg estate for a couple of months now. The seller has had confirmation that he no longer owns the vehicle and I have since had V5's for other cars sent off and received but still no sign of the Allegros V5! The DVLA answer phone tells me that in cases such as this I should re-apply for V5C using a V62, but this costs £25 odd, doesn't it? It doesn't seem fair that they haven't sent me the logbook yet I have to pay for a replacement, unless Ive read their website wrong. Anybody got any ideas on where to go from here?

I'm going through this at the moment. My hatred of DVLA ramped up a notch the other day... on the back of the green slip, it says if the V5C hasnt arrived within 6 weeks, phone this number, so I phoned, (from France, costing a fortune, no doubt) and spent 5 minutes of my life navigating the menu etc finally getting the right option, only to hear recording telling me to fill in a V62 form. What? thats it? I phoned again to make sure I hadnt got the wrong option, but right enough - fill in V62.
WHY THE FORK DOESNT IT JUST SAY THAT ON THE BACK OF THE GREEN SLIP?
Talk about useless institutions and their red-tape simply making needless work. So, I downloaded a V62 and filled it out. If you have the green slip, its free, if you don't, its £25. Before sending it, I made sure I took photocopies of the green slip, the V62 and also got proof of posting. (cant send special delivery from france). Just have to wait now. Up to another six weeks I believe.
I'm so glad that in the 21st century age of being able to do everything online in a few clicks, I still have to wait six weeks for this.

Urgh I had similar issues last year. Didn't get a V5 back for weeks and weeks, did the whole waste-an-entire-afternoon-on-the-phone thing (although I seem to recall I got put through to an actual human being - gasp!). Got told to fill in V62 and send away the with the green slip. Then a week later a V5 arrived, followed by another one a week or two later! So I'd recommend hanging on a little while longer if you can.

hmmm got me a bit worried, I have a Range Rover Classic sitting on my drive... I bought it 9 months ago, turned out to be a pain in the ... no V5 yet from DVLA, but then not taxed anymore ... not SORNED either ... no sure what to do ... if I start applying for papers it might make it exist and cause more problems .... what to do???

Where does that leave the "continuous registration" thing they're trying to do then? In my case the previous owner has had a letter saying "thanks for telling us you no longer own the car" but I havent received the logbook. Does that mean the Allegro is now in limbo, spinning into a vortex of untaxed oblivion?(metaphorically speaking)
On a similar note, is there any way of finding out how many cars I still technically own? Ive had stacks of cars over the years, possibly 100's. I'm pretty sure that many of the logbooks were just lost in the pre SORN days, meaning that although they have been scrapped, I'm still technically the registered keeper.
I'm tempted to ring up the DOOVLA and ask them how many cars are still in my name, although I'm afraid a big alarm will go off and Ill get hammered with £1.6Bn worth of sorn fines.
Actually, maybe ill just let sleeping dogs lie, so to speak...

I just popped into the local DVLA office, filled in a V62 and had it checked by an employee, then they send it off for you. Had to do it twice now and both times received the log book within a week.

I seem to recall the whole V5C thing came about because partly they wanted to introduce all this continous licensing malarky, but it was announced they had something like 60 million cars registered, but only 20 million were taxed or something like that. So it asked the question where were all these vehicles, have to say I was asking the same thing too!! I would suggest to anyone though if you still have any vehicles on the old type V5, is to get them changed for the newer type V5C ASAP. Cos basically I don't trust DVLA one iota that they will hounour renewals 20 years down the line.
When ever I ring these places with automated switched boards and menu's, trick is to not press any buttons or select any numbers at all, you immediately get placed in the queue or can speak to a human straight away.

Yup, also worth a look on www.saynoto0870.com to see if you can dig up a landline number instead of spending a fortune whilst listening to robots.

Ok, theres been a bit of a development in the no V5C saga...
I was nattering to Mrs Lankytim about how useless the DVLA are sometimes and how id started a thread asking for advice on RR. Halfway though the conversation she scuttled off to the spare bedroom and came back with an unopened brown envelope, a brown envelope that was suspiciously similar to the ones the DOOVLA use. "Errr, is this what you're looking for?"
Yes, it was the V5C. Apparently it had arrived about a month ago and as it had'nt moved from the coffee table for a couple of days she had "filed" it with a load of other random mail into a drawer in the spare bedroom.
So, all's well that ends well I guess. Ive got the V5C for the Allegro tourer and I havent had to go through the mangle mentally and finantially getting a replacement V5C. Apologies to the DVLA, you are utterly blameless and my wife will be punished accordingly.
Thanks to everyone for the advice. I feel a bit of a fraud now!
