Sorry to punt this around a few forums but I'm at the end of my teather (again)
Help!
After the saga of the snapped clutch pedal on my 1986 100 Avant the steering column is now making a terrible grinding noise. It seems to be coming from the top end and dissapears when I push the steering wheel forwards. Theres a spring behind the wheel and when this is compressed, the grinding stops. The steering was fine before it was dismantled to remove the pedal box.
Ive had the whole lot apart tonight, removed the spring and the locking washer, reset it all, put it back together and its still exactly the same.. if not worse! It even made me miss Ashes to ashes.
Any idea on how to cure the grinding noise? Its doing my head in.
Have an old Audi as compensation for my grovelling thread.
