I managed to fit all the ancilliaries, the bonnet, the grille and the fan and airbox last night, filled the engine up with fluids and fired it up again. Had a minor leak from a coolant hose, and the exhaust manifold is 'chuffing' a bit. It's blowing less the more it's run, and I can't get the manifold bolts any tighter without rounding em so hopefully it should cure itself as carbon builds up. I tweaked the timing a bit, and it seems to run better, but I have no timing light to set it correctly, have to see if I can borrow one. Here's a vid of it once it was up to temperature:

I took it for a run round our cul de sac last night, and I'm pretty pleased with it as it is tbh.
Well I've no photos of it on the ground with the engine in yet, but it's lowered as it is, and I quite like the slightly raked stance it has.
I've a 50p sized hole to weld in the drivers footwell, and then I think I'll stick it through a test and see what else it needs. That should give me a nice shopping/to do list!

Not yet mate. Got sidetracked with other stuff this weekend, will try and get it booked in this week.
Good news is I've managed to source a blue carpet to replace the butchered one that's in there, and a blue drivers seat that's hopefully got some springs left!

This week I've made some progress, but no MOT yet (my 'tame' MOT tester's on holiday) I picked up and fitted my reclaimed blue carpet, hoovered about 25 years worth of curse word out of it, and then realised that the reason the has fallen out of the driver's seat is because part of the frame is cracked. Hopefully I'll be able to address that with the welder tonight! Last night I got bored of watching curse word telly, so this happened: The widowmaker came out: Whammy: The verdict? It's crying out for a big drop, and 15s maybe a bit on the small side. Coilover kits for these are £££ too, but I've not given up looking yet.

Those wheels are lovely, do they fit straight on and what size/et are they?
Front: 323i front struts + coilover kit, but you'll also need shocks since the 316/320 struts are 45mm and 323i are 51mm... Rear: Modded E28 sport shocks + coilover kit
Spring kits are also quite dear, I'd get the grinder out for now!

They're the Schmidts off my Golf, they're 8J x 15 ET20. I put an 8mm spacer on the front, and the control arm just rubs on the wheel weights! On the rear it'd need a spacer too because the inner rim rubs a tiny bit on the swingarm, if I fitted em I'd probably run a hubcentric 20mm to step the rear wheels out.
Any idea what that little lot is likely to cost rob?

Alternatively you can get a spax adjustable shocks and springs for about £380 for 316 struts. I liked mine and thats what my black 316 was fitted with (see earlier pages in my build thread). I got the whole kit £250 2nd hand, but they don't come up often. I've since fitted them Pistonheaders 316.

Thanks Rob, that's a real help. I'll have to see what's left in the piggy bank once the thing is all tested and road legal, and go from there.
The good thing is it's had new shocks and what I'm pretty sure are lowered springs relatively recently, so it's a fair bit lower than stock height right now. We'll see I guess.

15" on the small side (or do you mean the width of the 15's?)! They are friggin perfect, you might be able to get away with 16" but any bigger IMO won't look right. Good work on sorting the engine out too, lovin your work! Get it slammed

I think 15's are on the large side for a E21 . . but they look good . . just hit it with the stick and it's all good ;D

I mean the 15s with 45 profiles on looked a little lost in the rear arches. I guess with some stick that'd sort it out. I can't stop looking at picture of this atm: 16in 3 piece Ronal Racing mag splits. Mmmmmm

This has been low on updates, as nothing exciting's happening.
I've removed and thrown the poxy old carburettor and I'm fighting a second hand 32/36 DGAV carb to make it fit and run right without any air leaks. I need to buy some actual gasket material I fear, rather than using old special K boxes!
