Ive abused my socket set to death. Ive put off replacement for far too long and the misery of not having a usable socket of the correct size and having a ratchet that will only loosen and not tighten bolts- and even then will slip so I smash my knuckles- is getting too much to bear.
I basically need a full set of everything- pretty much all my sockets and extras are written off through constant use and abuse.
Are there any decent sets to look out for out there? Any good deals to be had? Any that I need to avoid like the plauge?

I have just been using that socket set tonight. It's great. Halfords Professional is superb. I got mine free with a heavily discounted black five draw cabinet.
A hot tip for you - get a Halfrords trade card for a 21% ish discount. Just say you run a motor business and produce some letterhead or an invoice or something to back up your story.

Would go for the Halfords Pro set too. Really good stuff and the lifetime guarante. Got a set of long sockets today, they are usually £15.99 I think I payed £12.20.
If you don't use timsands offer of his trade card, you can borrow my card if you want if your over this way. Halfords on the same road too. lol.

I bought this set a few months back when it was half price: www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_173083_langId_-1_categoryId_165572Paid about £95 for it and it's been the best, most complete toolkit I've ever had for the money. I have to say.....the Halfords Pro range is just brilliant for the money. I'm so impressed with mine and reckon it's been worth every single penny. The one I bought has a full range of sockets in 1/4, 3/8 & 1/2 drive. Brilliant selection of deep sockets, full selection of ring/open spanners as well as a good range of ratchet spanners. Add to that the full complement of hex sockets (allen key sockets) and complete set of torx sockets in both male & female....you really couldn't want for more! All extension bars (2 lengths in each size) have swivel ends if you need them....something I've never used before, but couldn't live without now! There is also UJ adaptors in all three sizes. Complete & comprehensive.....YES. Excellent quality.....YES. Great value for money.....DAMN RIGHT!!

I've got that one, had it about 5 years i reckon and haven't broken anything yet other than the plastic clips that hold the case shut.

Do you not need a VAT reg number for a trade card?

nope. just something that loosely suggests that you have the capacity to hold a rachet at the right end.
it also makes brake bulbs 13p and not 2.50.
and 4 litres of magnatec 15.99 :-)

If I could get it for £95 I think we could have a W1NNAR! And I thought all halfords stuff was rubbish?

nope. just something that loosely suggests that you have the capacity to hold a rachet at the right end. Wouldn't that put them above most of our staff? lol Our store asks for some sort of ID for being in the trade, but 10 minutes on MS word to print out a headed invoice sheet would suffice.

No don't need a vat number i get one through work (work for a military engineering type place) they accepted one of my payslips as proof. I have same set as mystery machine, only issues i've had with mine is picking the box up when its not done up and loosing the 15 and 11mm sockets. Really nice to use, good quality.. mine has seen some real abuse and i've still not had cause to use the lifetime warranty. Mines two years old now, go get one.. for the money I cant think of better.

Another vote for the Halfords Professional range here.
Hopefully someone who works for 'em can clear this up for me though.
I bought an extended socket the other week, that was branded slightly differently (I cant remember whart now), but still displayed where all the other Professional stuff was. Is the Halfords Professional branding changing, and will the new stuff be under the lifetime warranty?
I've used the lifetime warranty as well, the supervisor just checked that it was a Halford Professional socket and gave me another one. Excellent stuff.
