The roof rails on my mk3 Passat estate seem to be letting water in through the 3 mounting holes on each side of the roof.
Can anyone reccommend a suitable sealant I can use to slop round the holes? Preferably something I can get easily from B&Q or whatever.
I'm thinking some kind of bathroom silicone sealant will do, but wondered if anyone knew of anything better like some kind of epoxy resin or something?
Cheers!

Forget the B&Q bathromm sealant mate, it´s no good for what you want. My all singing all dancing -get out of jail free sealant is Sikaflex221, You´ll probably have to loosen off the screws on the rails to get enough in though.

Another vote for Sikaflex. Sticks like sh*t to a blanket and is over paintable

pretty much any silicone will do it, but something with a colour to it will stick better, clear tends to lift away...

Brilliant, thanks chaps!
Where might I buy this Sikaflex or Tiger seal? I kinda need to get hold of it today as I've been granted a day of car fettling tomorrow!

Also, I was told bathroom sealant contains salt - not what you want stuck to your car! ;D I'm also interested in where to get Sikaflex from. I have used Tiger seal but the stuff I have never seems to go off... just stays gloopy. Maybe it's past its best... or is it supposed to do that?!

Tiger Seal is the same as Sikaflex but a whole lot cheaper!
You can get Sikaflex from halfrauds i believe for about £13 a tube, Tiger Seal or any Seam Sealer can be found at your local paint supplier for a more reasonable £3-4

sikaflex is a polyurethane type mastic/adhesive. go to local builders merchants etc and ask for a polyurethane mastic. as has been said overpainteble, and sticks like poo to a blanket. we use it at work and sell it for around £3 a tube. keeps boats afloat!!!

Do not and I meen DO NOT!!! use bathroom sealant you'll have that area rusted through in a few years! one of my cortina front wings was sealed with bathroom sealant and wherever that curse word touched the metal is now waffer thin and full of holes, the amount of cars I get in that are rotten as a pair cos somone sealed the plates with bathroom sealant is untrue ! K reg Mk3 golf in at the mo had a very small patch on the sill 8 months later it now needs a full sill, door step and inner sill patch. Just make sure if you use tiger seal you want the bit to stay where it is cos after it's gone off it aint moving i once used it to stick the blue covvers back on my old LDV ambulance and ended up driving home with no trousers on and them stuck to the side of the van ! don't get it on your hands and wipe them on your jeans

I once used it to "temporarily" stick a plastic arch trim on a mk3 fiesta. Used 3 pea sized dots (if that)
That thing was NOT coming off there, no way in hell!
