I've seen a lot of talk around these boards about ATS Classics. Well, I've got a set of Australian-made Performance Classics, which I assume are a copy of the ATS version.
Size is 14"x6JJ and 4x130mm. They came for free with my Beetle when I bought it over 2 years ago, and I'm considering putting them on the car soon with my next set of tyres.
I'm going to clean them up a little bit and repaint the centres, but not go too crazy because they've got a few gouges in them and frankly I'm not keen on spending a whole week of polishing them. My main question is which bolts to use for a Beetle. Obviously, they are not located by the centrebore, so the wheel bolts will be important. The standard Beetle wheel bolts will also be too short due to the thickness of the alloy. I'm wondering if I should use tapered bolts or not, since the holes don't seem to have much of a taper on them, but they do have somewhat rusted steel inserts.
I've heard from someone in the VW club that the standard bolts for New Beetles with steel rims are longer than old Beetle bolts and have the same thread. If I can get some of these secondhand, should I go for them?
I know that there is plenty of knowledge on these boards, so any help will be gratefully received. Cheers!
