quick question
on a non interferance engine...what would you expect to see happen if the cam was retarded one tooth , and same with advanced one tooth?

lack of power if its retarded and pinking if its advanced, it depends on the individual model how bad it is though, some cars wont even start and other can be driven almost as normal.

theres some confusion on whats the right marks on my car...ive tried what i think is right and one tooth advanced ...drives pretty much the same and i cant choose what i think is right

Cam timing was one tooth retarded on a pinto i had and it drove just fine, you could adjust it up on the ignition timing to compensate and it felt normal, however as i knew it wasn't quite right we bunged it on me mates rolling road and it was almost 20bhp down on what it should have been, sounds a lot, but in a light car it still felt quite quick.
