Well, went and picked this up on tuesday evening, well I say evening, I mean at 1.30 am (sorry jimmy). Then drove it straight to what it was designed to do - a trackday obviously. Rocked up to Llandow at 3am to the great ammusement of my mates who we booked the track for the day with. Mixed responses but I love it and that's all that matters.

The marshal was a) peeing himself with laughter and b) making sure it was roadworthy. The car is having the desired effect.



Doing it's thang. Goes surprisingly alright considering it's got very little power. Got it going proper sideways in the afternoon once I got used to the handling.







It's going to the nurburgring on wed for a week. Before that need to replace all the offside suspension bits n pieces like link bars, bushes - there's a lot of clonking. Will do some cosmetic bits as well - but will stick that up later when i've done them.

Yeah the sharknose bm's are my favourite shape of ever - so much anger in that snout.

Just need to give it the serious ammount of go that it deserved. I'm thinking something along the lines of a big six for now.

I would love a big beee em eight - but the pennies just don't stack up as i need to do the gearbox, rear axle, coilovers and brakes as well. So a big 3.5 straight six will do whilst i get it all together and i can just work on making that faster. Also the car will be going on a bit of a diet so that'll help.

Excelllent e28 - the rust is coming on a lot. Apparently the key to the vibrant orange rust is hydrogen peroxide then leave in the rain a day or two!

Anyway - you mention going for some umpffh in the car! I would highly recommend the m30 big 6. there are a heap of options. if you have the time to hunt - look for a european 7 series engine, the 745i engine which is a 3.5ltr with low pressure turbo - these accept boost and can either have a bigger turbo fitted or go supercharged easy enough. Get on the old dog and bone to Rich (little rich) at Fritz Bits, he runs a 600+bhp 635i, he can sort you with any parts you need and heaps of advice! I rang up for some bits for mine today and got more info on my car than I thought possible!!! Keep up the good work though fella! :-D

Yeah i was just getting fritz' bitz number now to call them tomorrow. Will see what kinda stuff they say. Tbh considering the car will be going lighter i think i'll be happy with a 3.5 in there for now with a manual box and a lower diff.

Most of us struggle to remove rust from our rides and some of us remove all the paint in an attempt to make it rust! Wonder how long it will last before it falls to bits?

Mirafioriman - not long if i just left it, but i'm starting to do any structural welding if it needs any and undersealng it properly. I will then seal the rust of the body panels so it slows it right down. Then when i get bored i'll give it some paint. Like i said to someone else it's not a rust it n junk it project.

p.s. when you say most of 'us' - i do have shiny spangly retros as well.

Looks like it went to a good home and the funds from it are going on V8 bits. The bimmer has had some chemist strength Hydrogen Peroxide on it, maybe worth finding some a little stronger. Let me know when you are popping back up for the other 'un and I will go grab the other ARB and light cluster.

Well been keeping a low profile at the moment. Managed to say bye bye to my license in December for six months, so all car mojo just went out of the window. Now that the day of license winging it's way back is looming all car related mojo has come flooding back. Took the rusty streak to it's mot this week, no surprise it failed...on 31 points - quite a lot of them pedantic stupid stuff but ho hum.

Worst bit is a couple of patches of rust on the floorplan but nothing major i'll get some pics up later. Of course having to get to the floorplan for welding has meant i've found a great excuse to strip the car down a lot more, which i wasn't too keen on before but now i've been 'forced' to, silver lining and all that...
