So here's the logic.. This car costs a bit to run, so I buy an economical car. Except my economical car is also slow and noisy to the extent of making my head throb. And the money I've saved by buying an economical car, I've decided to spend on renting a small unit to store and work on the Volvo.
It's a logic that only a car lover could understand. I miss my Volvo and it will be back soon.
Sorry, it's not an update really, just wanted it to be known that I will be bringing it back, hopefully in the new year.

Surely on LPG running costs can't be that bad? My two cars on the road are both 735i's which do 20-22mpg and only on petrol... I justify it by thinking how much money I'm saving by not buying a modern car! I also work from home these days which helps.
I've always had a soft spot for this car ever since I saw it in B8D's (?) hands at RRG'07. Loving it's current look.

Cheers guys. Just need to find someone to trailer/recover it 30 miles or so and I can crack on with doing all the bits I didn't get a chance to do properly when it was actually on the road Surely on LPG running costs can't be that bad? My two cars on the road are both 735i's which do 20-22mpg and only on petrol... I justify it by thinking how much money I'm saving by not buying a modern car! I also work from home these days which helps. I've always had a soft spot for this car ever since I saw it in B8D's (?) hands at RRG'07. Loving it's current look. I've always had the same soft spot. I tried to buy it at least once before I actually got my hands on it. Running costs aren't too bad I suppose, but it runs like a sack o' poo on gas so I'm inclined to use petrol (until I get it all set up by someone who knows what they're doing). But whilst it's not bad compared to a modern car, having a small car is working out to be saving me over a grand a year based on my new 30 mile commute. I really miss having a big wafty heavy car..

Reading between the lines some of you will have noted that I don't really like my Dyane. And that I do like the Volvo. I've just paid a deposit to Shiply so the wheels are in motion to get this back to my unit and up to scratch. As much as an engine swap tickles my fancy (big diesels mostly ), I really do just want to get it back on the road, so I imagine it will be a damn good service, a new cam belt and finishing off the paint in the door shuts before being driven to see a man in Bournemouth to sort everything on the LPG side. I've also just applied for a job for the company I work for now, but in the town that I'm moving to, so with a bit of luck, cars can just be play things rather than a necessary mode of transport, which would be much nicer. I'll stop posting 'non-updates' now, and not come back until there are pictures of me up to my elbows in redblock cambelt swap

I don't know how but I'd missed this post before.......... Inspriring stuff just made me spend an hour on e-bay looking at 240 Estates and thinking how cool they actually are and what potential they have - lowered, paint, banded steels and heavily tinted windows was my first thought. Not many 240's on there. I was surprised how cheap the V40's, V70's, 850's are but I like the look of the 240's more. They are actually quite practical too I suppose ;D

Is it from the same stable as the current dairy milk 240 or something completely different? I'm sort of hoping you're looking at a PV544 but I don't know much about them and I suspect automatic is rarer than manual so I expect it's not one of those. Not that it's actual anymore but the 544 never had automatic transmission as an option.

I guess you are planning for a diesel, which I hope means some huge Merc or american Trubodiesel, but if you're still thinking about a petrol engine, the old b21e's (maybe with a turbo, if you enjoy speed:P) are IMO a lot better than any of the more modern engines, unless you go for a 5 cylinder (or with turbo), which means a lot more work (but also a lot more power)

I knows which diesel he's planning, and having just test driven my own version of the motor ben's after - I can heartily agree with his choice!
- weirdly, this is the first turbocharged engine I have ever owned!!

Good luck with the diesel conversion.
I'd be interested in your LPG kit. I've a 2.8 carb fed ford that I will be covering mega distance in shortly and am a complete LPG novice - pm me if your up for a chat.

Zykotec, you were right with diesel, but it's not American or Benz. It's not a secret, but cheers Kev for being gentlemanly enough to not reveal that my chosen engine is an Iveco Daily, either 2.5 turbo and 2.8 turbo form. Chris, I won't be selling all the gas stuff as some of it is outdated and I'd rather be responsible enough not to sell old tat, but the there's an OMVL vaporiser, Tinley Tech closed loop upgrade and a mixer in the for sale section now

It's reassuring to know you are not putting some wimpy little passenger car diesel in it at least
