Bought a new replacement for daily use as I'm doing over 350 miles a week now so needed something a little nicer to cruise on the motorway in(a snob I know).
Mileage : 170,000 on the body, no documentation saying at what mileage the engine would say but the block is still bright gold, pump still looks brand spanking new etc so doubt its done many miles.
Tax : April 2010
MOT : October 2010.
Been told its had a lift kit put on it and when I park it next to other discos it seems higher but I'm not sure so it could have? Its also got a thick ally steering gaurd to protect your steering arms so you don't bend them when your offroad.
Its a 2.5tdi 4 pot, runs bloody lovely and pulls very well for the size of the vehicle. Brakes are all spot on last owner said they were changed and I don't disbelieve that. Reconditioned engine(full recon) it looks like a brand spanking new engine went in it. New diesel pump and everything, I assume the turbo was probably done at the same time, had the pipes off pretty much no play just like a recon turbo would be. Must have cost somebody a BOMB. But if your fussy it does leak from the rocker cover gasket. But when does a landrover diesel not leak? haha
Oh yeah also had a new alternator.
New clutch, clutch arm(common problem) and slave cylinder 18 months ago.
All axles are fine, no diff whines or problems, diff lock works, transfer box all works tip top. Usual discovery problem it crunches a bit on the down change to 2nd and first but its no problem ive driving it for a while and it really gets no worse. Most discos do this and go on for years and years, even a recon box crunches after a few months. Just treat it like the big gearbox it is and not a whizzy little car gearbox and it doesnt crunch.
Interior is in reasonable condition as you know landrover interiors are hard wearing and don't really wear much. Everything that I can think of works apart from the passenger side rear window. Motor works fine but needs a new mechanism.
Lights are all wired in properly with relays and proper lives no dog clips and curse word here so its not a fire waiting to happen like it was when I bought it. Stereo works.
Power steering, central locking, electric windows etc you know how it all is with these, twin sunroofs..
Tyres are all fine, plenty of miles left in them, wheels all good. No major problems I can think of at all.
Goes ANYWHERE bloody awesome off road, you can pull 3.5ton with them when they have a factory fitted tow bar like this one and the electrics work.
Cosmetics and rust etc:
The bodywork has plenty of greenlaning scratches and a couple of dents etc but for gods sake who wants a clean one? They are workhorses, tow vehicles and off road weapons not show cars.
Usual disco places are fairly rusty as usual, boot floor, sills both sides, inner wing tops. But as they are seperate chassis and body vehicles it doesnt affect the MOT so thats all good really just if it bothers you a weekend welding and a rangerover boot floor(doesnt rot) would sort it all out.
