My LPG powered Audi has been remarkably reliable over the past few months, a far cry from the shuddering rattly banger it used to be. Maybe my threats to scrap it worked! However ive found that in damp weather the "snout" of the coil starts to earth out and create a weak spark at the plugs, causing a misfire when the engines under load.
After a good clean the engine runs better than its ever done under my ownership, but before long the tell take sparks start dancing across the top of the coil and the misfire returns.
I'm guessing the insulation has broken down and the coil needs to be replaced.
Instead of fitting a standard coil I was thinking of using an uprated one that kicks out more power and creates a bigger spark. LPG has greater insulating properties than petrol, I think this extra load on the ignition system could be whats finished the old coil off. A beefier spark would be a great help in getting the LPG to burn more efficiently.
Ive hunted around ebay and google but cant seem to find anything except lucas coils for Minis. Did I dream about these uprated coils? Anyone got any experience of them or know where I can get one suitable for my Audi?
Ta!
