This is the my 3rd readers ride currently active. Due to an impending birth next March, we've decided to sell my wife's Smart Roadster Coupe. has done a sterling job getting the wife to and from work for the last few years but now its so low, it difficult for her to get in and...well.....you can't get a pram and baby in too.
So I decided that I needed a BRM in my life for general commuting duties (wife has my dad's old Toyota Picnic now, smart currently for sale).
I'd kept an eye out for BRM's for sale for a few weeks. had just missed a few really low mileage ones but spotted V190 YDO online at a dealers in Loughborough.
V190 has spend most of its life in Lincoln then moved over to Nottingham. Has done 87000 and has had 2 previous owners but both owners from the same family.
It was a dealer demo car, registered on 9th september 99 which is the same day as my birthday (was a sign telling me to buy ). demo car explains the silver nose cone, no BRM decal on the rear panel and the optional extra 2nd rear spoiler.
well, I drove over to lougborough from Birmingham and spent about a hour going over the car, had a test drive then had a chat with the dealer and did a deal. should be picking up on monday if I get the insurance sorted.
the car has got a stack of service stamps and receipts for vitually everything done to the car. has even got the factory build cards, original dealer wallet, manuals and crucially the original rover dealer bill of sale to the first owner in 2000 (car was used by dealer for about 4000 miles first)
overall, its an honest, low mileage car that ticks all my boxes. with 145bhp and weighing only 1060kg, its good on fuel but there are number of minor niggles for sort
- all the wheel arches need a good clean inside as there loads of top soils built up everywhere. rear arches were waxoiled so there is only a few rust blebs at the back.
- 4 odd tyres. all have loads of tread except one which has a lot of wear on the outer edge
- driver seat bolster is heavily worn so will get a kit from gliptone to recolour and rejuvinate
- KN panel filter to go on
- phased programme of braking and bushes upgrade
- replace key engine sensors to maintain fuel economy
- treat minor rust blebs
- repaint nose cone in BRM orange
- get another BRM enamel badge for the rear hatch
