Sorry, it's not a fun question but by helping with this, my Volvo will look cooler ;D Anyone know the diameter of post 67 beetle/bus headlamps? I have a sneaking suspicion that they're bigger than 7 inch and I'm hoping they're pretty close to early Volvo 200 series size Also, this is going to sound daft, but am I right in assuming that when measuring round headlamps, I'm going from the widest points on the outer edges of the lens. Or do you measure the body of the unit? Would help if I knew what I was measuring, wouldn't it ;D Cheers Ben

ah, flaps.
Volvo, in their wisdom, made the headlights for the 244 just a bit bigger to make things awkward. Ah well, Just means there'll have to be some new brackets made..
Cheers

Have you got some lying around already? I've got a (single) old sealed beam unit from a van you're welcome to at A52 next weekend if it is any good for mocking up new brackets?

Thanks Jim, I think I have a couple about the garage but if I don't I'll drop you a PM before Saturday. The plan is to use aftermarket crystal or crosshair headlamps and I had a feeling that Beetle ones were closer to the correct size, but if not, it's going to be a case of fabricating bits for one of the universal 7" kits

I think only the US spec sloping headlights used a 7" sealed beam. Euro spec cars had a seperate lens and reflector fixed to the rim with clips. I can't tell you the exact size but they are slightly larger than 7 inch. Later cars with upright headlights also had seperate lens and reflectors and are also larger than 7 inch and even later cars had flat-lensed H4 units same as Mk1 Golfs and T3 buses.
