I've spent Christmas messing with the Bond Equipe, working through all the things that need doing. On thing I need to sort is the fuel filler cap. At the moment it has one of those emergency caps. The filler nech itself doesn't have any tabs for a locking cap to fit to, and I'd like to put a locking cap on there. I don't think the filler neck and cap is from the Triumph parts bin but I could be wrong. You can buy chrome locking caps and the thread to attach to the filler neck, but they're pretty expensive and I'm trying to find a cheaper solution. What I was thinking was, if I could get a filler neck and locking cap off another car, I could quite easily fit this to the Bond as the filler neck is pretty much straight down into the tank with a rubber joining pipe. So, any ideas what cars have a 2in diameter filler neck and a (preferably) chrome locking cap? Also has to be accessibly priced... I was thinking MGB? Any help / suggestions would be great, before some scumbag flicks a match into me tank! ;D

Reliant scimitar.. Locking, old looking, easy to fit to other stuff
|
|
To get a standard A40 this low, you'd have to dig a hole to put it in

I've no idea if its two inches in diameter, probably more, but cheap and accessible, I was thinking a Mini. Theres plenty of them knocking around, especially ones that have been crashed/broken for spares/MOT fail.

Rodit - I had a look at Rat Sport - they do do the sort I'm after, but... I dunno, maybe I'm a cheaper cheapskate than most, but almost £40 seems a bit heavy seeing as I need other things for the car. ;D They do look nice though!
Mattyvole - I was thinking Mini too. For some reason I thought they would have smaller diameter filler necks than 2in, but perhaps not!
I've even thought about borrowing the one from my Merc, but that's plastic and I'd probably not find a replacement very cheaply.

mini is welded to tank, mk1-2 escort but its only couple of inches long but easily welded to another tube.

I´d just go down the scrappies Dean and have a nose around. You know what you´ll need as soon as you´ve found it

MK2 Sceptres have a nice flip up chrome locking cap. I can't recall the filler pipe set up, it's very short as the tank is in the side of the boot.
|
|
... the only injury I sustained was a bumped head when I let the seatbelt of without realizing the car was upside down and that's not really the car's fault.

Hmm, that's Minis out then. Mk1-2 Escys sound like a good call though.
The filler neck only needs to be short as the tank is right under it. The thing about scrappies is that I don't know if they keep the filler caps or the keys when they de-pollute them. I'm due a visit to the scrappy soon though so I could have a nose around.
Seth might have what I'm after, he's gonna have a look at what he has.
I don't think this car had a locking cap as standard, and I know that if anyone is crooked enough to nick fuel they'd just snip the fuel line, but I'm thinking it'd stop petty vandalism.
Thanks for the suggestions, people! I knew I could rely on the RR community to come up with the goods!

sceptre has a tiny hose leading into the tank so its feasible to put a longer pipe on it.. hard part will be finding one lol... I;ve been on the lookout for a new filler for ages as the lock on mine is shot to bits..

How about one off a mid-90's Fiat Coupe? I guess it must be locking, and it looks a bit like one of those old Aston caps. No idea of the filler neck setup though...

Thanks for the suggestions! Well, Seth sent me photos of a Hillman Hunter pipe but it looks like it wouldn't fit as it is quite angled and has a large cupped filler attachment. I'm looking at an MGB pipe and cap which looks like the sort of thing I need, although I'm not sure about the diameter of the pipe. I can always adapt the rubber connector to fit though.
The Bond seems to have a specific tank and filler neck rather than anything from Triumph's parts inventory, so it looks like I'll have to get creative on this!
