Chill the feck out man, if you have any personal issues with what I have said or want some real evidence on what I 'purport' to be, or want some some solid 'in the metal' proof on why I hold the opinions that I do you are most welcome to pop round my workshop for a cuppa anytime I'm there and have a look at some nice vintage cars and a have a natter/debate.
I certainly don't need to justify myself to anyone on a forum.
To a greater extent that offer is also open to you ben, the kettles nearly always on, or if you have any questions or problems with vintage cars feel free to PM me, though surprising skoda is absolutely right i one area the VSCC or your local vintage car club will be able to help you with almost any problems or any guidance you may need...
I hope you do decide to 'go vintage' it's really a whole different way of enjoying cars and great fun.

Ignoring the bits where that went a bit wayward.. The opinions of everyone that has contributed to this thread have been useful and enlightening. It has confirmed that opinions differ depending upon experience, that a 7 will probably be the cheapest and best supported way into vintage ownership. Things like speed and reliability really don't matter with a car like this.. Driving about in a car whose limits are so easy to find means lots of fun without losing my licence! More research of other cars of the era will be required, but I reckon I'm pretty close with my first thoughts.. Thanks again to all who contributed

Also consider Riley 9's or 12/4's, I believe Rileys to be one of the best vintage car experiences for almost any money, though the sporting vintage 6 cylinders models are fetching really big money now, 12/4's can be be made very quick for not a huge amount of money and good 9 projects still turn up in the mid 4 figures, also consider Singers, Morris's, and some larger Austin's as they can be had relativity cheaply (though still more than most 7's).. This looks like a whole heap of fun and quite reasonably priced, though I don't know much about singers at all I have driven a couple and they were very pleasant little cars.. www.prewarcar.co.uk/show_prewar_car.asp?car_id=51173Or this for full on Toad of Toad hall hooning, though i've never experienced a Model T it's on my must do list for a while now... www.prewarcar.co.uk/show_prewar_car.asp?car_id=51990

That's really really lovely, i'm a big fan of Rovers from all eras though i've never experienced a pre Wilks brothers Rover i'd buy one like a shot if one came up i could afford, though i don't think I've ever seen one for sale either...

There are only a handful of Rover 9's left now in this country and the only one I have seen for sale was about 2 years ago. This sold really quickly as well. I keep telling myself I am a lucky lucky man and can't see any reason to ever sell my car.
