I have just seen this : Basically it was a jacked up Mk2 Golf with 4wd running gear. Was certainly handling the snow easily. Anyone know anything about them?

Stolen from Wikipedia: "There was also a version called Golf Country (about 6,697 cars), designed for light off-road driving. It had more suspension travel, four-wheel drive, bullbars (generally over a single headlight grill), a skid plate for protecting the engine area, and a spare wheel mounted externally on the back. In Europe, it was offered with the acclaimed 114 bhp (85 kW) 1.8 8v petrol engine, and in smaller numbers, the 75 hp (56 kW) 1.6 GTD turbodiesel engine. There were also: 160 "Country Allround"; 558 " Country - Chrompaket" with Chrome bullbars and beige leather interior; and 50 "Country GTI" for VW-staff. The Golf Country was particularly popular in Alpine regions in central Europe."

Recently went to see a friend who's moved to Switzerland, and her brother had one of these. I love it! Never seen one before.

i wonder how much it differs underneath from a normal golf,
i'd imagine people would like the fact its 4x4, but not necessarily for off road use

it uses syncro running gear, but was never known as a golf synchro. golf synchros are normal road cars, fitted with 1.8 driver lumps (90bhp). Golf country's were never offered in the uk afaik and are all LHD.

T4x4 set up is the same as the G60 I believe, a mate of mine brought one off eBay years back from Stevenage for £250. He brought it for the 4 wheel drive system as he had a project G60 at the time & was thinking it would be goods for spares (don't know if he ever broke it though)
