The enquiry is complete The vehicle details for K25 RAF are:
Date of Liability 01 08 2007 Date of First Registration 13 09 1988 Year of Manufacture 1988 Cylinder Capacity (cc) 1597CC CO2 Emissions Not Available Fuel Type Petrol Export Marker Not Applicable Vehicle Status Unlicensed Vehicle Colour RED Vehicle Type Approval
Registered 1988, but now on a K plate - looks like a DVLA cockup rather than a late registered car...

Toy: 2001 Porsche Boxster S - almost retro! Daily: Modern BMW 435i - less exciting but quick!

hopfully swansea might but another k reg back on it??!! I imagine they would - it's unlikely that they'd go scratching around in the whys and wherefores of each car's plate when they can just do a like-for-like swap. I bet that since it's on a K-plate, they'd issue another K-plate.

OK As the capri is up for sale the itch for one of these has gone into over load.
No i know they can rot, but what are the Standard xr2's like performance wise etc, and how easy is the Zetec swap (Missus is gonna kill me if I buy one but who cares).

I have lost the will to live repairing mine. I need parts bad and cant find them! love that car too got a guy that wants it bad but doesnt want to pay me the silly figure I keep saying to put him off plus after a not very nice split from the ex in august it would appear i cant find the log book anyway

I then wanted to start cleaning the interior as it stinks of wood (the material not the smell of a boner) best quote ever!

As part of my apprenticeship we had a day out to Ford Dagenham in 1992. Saw all the new Fiestas being made there. was an amazing day out. Funnily enough I saw unsold Xr2's in the car park. Even though they stopped production in 1989 i think they took a while to sell off all their old stock bearing in mind the Xr2i was same price but more powerful. Date of manufacture at date of first registration can be a completely different thing.

yeah, the early zetecs are easier as the waterpump goes the right way. later zetecs need a tensioner to spin it the opposite way. no difference performance wise though. as for into a mk1, i should be doing it this summer. it depends what you want, i'm staying 4-speed. a 5-speed box needs the chassis legs cutting out and strengthening to make room for the 5th gear. the zetecs bolt to any old ford 4 pot gearbox there are no mounts available so its a custom mount job, but they aren't too complex. some people cut a bit of clearance in the off side chassis rails as its a bit close, but with decent engine mounts this can be left, hopefully ;D from then on its whatever induction you like and sorting the exhaust. lots of little bits to sort to make it better, i have a list of stuff to buy and its adding up. alternator clearance can be a curse word as can exhaust downpipe clearance if using a 4-speed box with front mount starter. all this i will be finding out, i plan to have it running fine by RRG10 ;D

Sounds good to me dude I reckon the Mrs' little 950 will need an overhaul come the summer (when I've got some of my fleet back in one piece!) I've been offered a Puma engine (1.7 16v) - any good? HC.

if you can fabricate stuff, yeah. i'd love to fit one of those, gearbox bolt pattern is different so you'd need to use the puma box and chop the chassis rails up. also custom driveshafts are needed and clearance of inlet and exhaust will be a pain as they are the opposite way round. you may have troubles with having a 950 engine, too. it can be done with the 950 stuff but hasn't. the gearbox cradle is different and the driveshafts aren't as good. not sure how as i've never really looked into it, mine is a 1300. if you need more info/advice go sign up to www.fiesta-mk1.co.uk and www.xrtwo.com lots of chaps done the conversion succesfully. only one did the puma engine and didnt finish it lots of work was needed as he never used a gearbox cradle.

the puma engines aren't any good for tuning as they have variable cam timing. the 1.6's are good for 220bhp on standard valve sizes.
theres a chap on turbosport with a 1.4 mk5 fez running 167bhp on standard crank and rods ;D

Hmm.. might give that a miss then!
What's the 'optimal' Zetec? (in terms of ease of fitting & tunabilty) I've got bike carbs I'd be running it on more than likely..
I'd always figured on having to replace the 'box & shafts anyway, 950 ratio's would probably be terrible with a 2ltr Zetec (hilarious but terrible!)

hilarious, yes ;D
i was gonna use my 1300 but got a 1600 with lsd now ;D
eaiest to fit is a 1.8 zetec from an escort, fiesta or mk1/2 mondeo. from focus onwards are the series 3 with the stupid waterpump. got mine from ginetta with less than 2k on the clock.

That sounds like a win - they come up often? (the 1600 LSD 'box) Why you going for a 4-speed? Easier fitting? Is an 1.8 not the same as 2l? (fitting-wise) Ginetta lump sounds awse! They modified at all? Are they readily available (& pricey!)? Thanks dude - sorry for the epic thread hijack (ish, might be of some help!) HC.

ginetta have lots of engines still available, at a damn good price. no ancillaries though.
i don't weld and don't wanna chop the chassis rails, planning on racing in a class where shell mods aren't allowed in the future, so i can put my x/flow back in. the 2.0s have sump bowl on wrong side and i think the water pump needs to be changed to 1.8, not much to do though.
the lsd came from a s1 rst and can be fitted easily, apparently.

and the ginetta engine is standard but with custom inlet gubbins and modified sump which I'm swapping for a 1.8 sump and pickup. sump can be sold for use on a kitcar though

Cool ;D I look forward to following your progress (then copying it, lol ) You got contact details for Ginetta you can pass on? I've got no issues with chopping & welding chassis rails ;D HC.
