With a heavy heart, I am reluctantly selling my lovely AX GT Mk1.
I bought this in April 09 as a daily runabout to save me using my thirsty (in comparison) Delica all the time. It has been an awesome little car and has served me well. It's been 100% reliable and best of all....an absolute hoot to drive.
This car is 100% original - no mods or performance stuff added. Pretty much as it rolled off the production line. Even the original Blaupunkt radio cassette still in place and working.
Mk1 GT's are getting quite hard to find - especially in unmolested, original form. Here are some of the reasons for them becoming more & more popular:
* 1.4 engine = lower car tax bracket unlike a lot of other hot hatches of the era
* 1989 = classic car insurance eligible. I pay £94 per anum fully comp, unlimited mileage, full breakdown cover etc...
* Excellent fuel economy. I never knew you could have this much fun with such long breaks between the pumps.
* Cheap and plentiful parts supplies - Citroen still stock most parts, so does GSF etc...plus there is a great 2nd hand spares support network through the AX owners club.
* GREAT fun to drive. The 1.4 TU engine (as also found in the 205 XS etc...) is a proper little screamer with its twin choke carb. Combine this with cracking handling and smoooooth ride....what more could you want.
* Awesome 80's interior: check out the pics for a true 80's period interior. Red stripes galore. EPIC!
* Practical for a small car. I've used this cars for parts collecting all over the country - the seats pop out in seconds to give a masive boot.
* Well equipped: Alloys, fog lights, original bodykit & spoiler, electric windows, central locking, sunroof + LOADS of storage trays/cubbys.
* Easy to work on - simple mechanics with nothing fancy to go wrong. No ECU's, no complex engine parts etc...
* Good residuals. Look after this car and you'll almost certainly make money on it. Mk1 GT's usually fetch 700+ on eBay if in original condition. I'd rather sell on here because (A) I hate eBay and (B) I'd love it to go to an RR person.
Overall this car is very solid. The boot floor is rust free, wheel arches rust free and tops of rear wings rust free (under rear window rubbers = rust free)
There is the common rust behind the headlamps - but this car looks like it has never been welded so you're looking at the original rust, not some bodged up repair. There is also a bit of rust appearing on the nearside rear behind the bumper - it was there when I bought the car and has got no worse since I've had it. Overall - this car is very rust free for an AX of its age. Photos attached of all rusty parts.
Engine/Gearbox are really sweet. Lovely smooth revvy engine with no knocks or noises. Drives lovely.
The car currently has no MOT (ran out end of Dec) but it is booked in for the MOT on Friday and will be sold with 12 months MOT.
If there is anything else you'd like to know, please just ask. If there is anything I've forgotten to mention, please let me know.
Have some photos (clear indicators come with it along with the orignal orange ones for 100% authenticity)
Drivers seat has been replaced with a mint original (the one in this photo had a small hole at the top of the bolster)
Rear headrests are now fitted - they weren't in the car when I took these photos
Original orange indicators shown in this shot
Rust behind NS rear bumper
Passenger door - not sure what caused these rust spots, but they were there when I bought the car and are surface rust....NOT rot!
When it is light I'll get some pics of all the defects and the shots of the rust behind the headlamps etc....along with some other shots of the car overall.
I'm making it look bad, but trust me, overall this is a very solid, very tidy little car which is immense fun and cheap to own. I'm just trying to be as honest as possible.
Once its MOT'd I'll probably stick this on the AX owners club but thought I'd put it up for you guys first giving you all a week headstart.
[EDIT] Please note - no swaps or PX's on this I'm afraid. [EDIT]
