I used to have some Good mans 3 way bass reflex ones, they actually sounded surprisingly good but the sponge eventually broke up around the woofers , too much early 90s house music.
Some shelf speakers had open bottoms to the casings, they sounded tons better if you cut the shelf out under where that hole was so it used the boot as more cabinet.
