i've just sold my old bmw to a previous owner. glad its gone to a good home, but thought it was a bit odd. does this sort of thing happen often, and what car would you buy back if you had the opportunity.

I regret selling my Lupo, and my 106.
I do the same with most cars - Buy them, realise they need bits and bobs so spend about 18 months plouging cash and time at them, until I finally get them 99.9% perfect, then lose interest and sell it. Whoever buys a car off me gets a right motor!
The worst bit was the guy who I sold it to offered it me back after he got a promotion and wanted to buy something a bit bigger, but I couldn't afford it, not by a long shot.

My old Morris Mini, any day. Most of the rest I've sold were a bit dross... I'd take my Ascona back if someone sorted the front-end out ;D and my Mk3 Escort. Depends how attached you get, I guess ;D

I would love to buy back my first car which was a Suzuki SJ410, I sold it when it failed an MOT to some guy who was going to use it off road only so it's probably scrap now I suppose buying back a car you have previously owned makes sense because you will have a better idea of it's condition than some random car.

Some yes, some no. I had a (not retro sadly) 1999 Renault Twingo that was nicely lowered - I'd have that back in a flash. Same with the immaculate '85 Renault 11 I sold for a paltry amount about five years ago - car was spotless but was in the way a bit and wasn't getting used. 'd have that back too.
Of the rest, well probably not. Enjoyed them all but they were sold for a reason.

I nearly bought back my old Passat. I saw it on ebay a year later for half what I sold it for. I thought oooh I'll buy it back as it was a great car until the Mrs reminded me of all the reasons I sold it for in the first place and that'd it'd tried to kill me by sheding a wheel at speed.
I think you tend to look back on your old cars through rose tinted testicles/specticles.

I bought back my Polo. I got a great deal out of it, we needed the space for a few months so i sold it to Nick (Horney) and he did some minor maintenance work on it and generally looked after it, then i bought it back for a little less money 4 months later. Worked out perfectly!

There's a few cars i would have back like a shot...
My old Audi 100 Sport that i sold in 2005 to fund putting my 1st Senator 24v on the road, best FWD car i've ever owned.
The Senator 24v mentioned above, just need to wait till colonelk isn't looking then i'll have it back!! Still the best one i've owned & i only sold it because i had too many cars at the time and colonel asked if i wanted to sell it!
My Carlton GSi 24v that i rescued after being stood for 3 years. Never let me down & sounded amazing!
As far as i know all of the above 3 still exist (well the Senator definately does!) so nothings impossible!

Yes definatly, have done this with my van. Sold, sold on again then bought back by me for a price I couldn't say no to as I new what had been done to it in my last ownership.
I'd buy back my first (legal) car, mk1 Metro and my first own car at 14 a white Chevette. Sadly this will never happen as they have both now met there maker.

ive done, it twice. first time this- second time this- not regretted it either time, as has been said, you know things about the car only the previous owner can, so youre in a better position tham most buyers.

There are some cars I'd buy back if they still existed, my old Mk1 Granada Ghia being top of the list. I'd buy my Rover 220 Coupe back as well as long as its not been "barried".
Just arranged to sell one of our cars back to it's last owner, he always regretted selling it.

I've never sold a car yet. Hence, I own more vehicles than I know quite what to do with, and I don't have enough time or money to dedicate to them all. I'm aiming to finish the year with all 3 MOTd, taxed and driving...

i know the late polo coupe S i converted to GT spec is gonna be up for sale again this weekend, typically i'm off to Oz and don't have the time nor the cash atm to have it back, i don't live surrounded by speedbumps any more so it would be possible to enjoy the thing now, oh well.
