Been done a million billion times I expect but I did it for one reason, which is clear by the last 2 pictures. Take an old tape and a generic USB stick.. Gut and combine the best bits.. Enjoy!

I like them. but wonder if its possible to fit the usb gubbins into a cassette, and still have a functional tape. Maybe have to be a C30. So theres less tape, to give more space maybe have a micro sd card in a reader, then a small usb socket on the case edge

Some of the latest card readers are very small (very small circuitry inside), so maybe you could fix an RSMMC or Micro SD card into a reader and use that. Or somehow extend the pins so that the SD card is in one part of the cassette and the reader internals in another.

shame no-one makes an 8-track version.. I been toying with the idea of putting one of those cheapo touch screen mp3 players into an 8-track for a while now.. but cant get my head around the part where it outputs to the read head in the 8-track player itself??

Looks Fabb but I'm a little confused? I'm assuming your music files ore on the flash stick thats inside the cassette? And the lead just links up the two, flash drive to usb socket in the modern head unit? If so why not just put the flash drive directly into the head units socket? Or have you set this up so you can play the cassette through the head unit? I'm assuming thats not it as you said you got rid of its gubbins Jodie

Hi Joloke, the head unit didn't have a USB A socket, it had USB B so you had to use a link lead. Rather than having the USB stick dangling about I did that. I don't have the USB head unit anymore now anyway, I have a Sony CDX4000 hidden under the dash and a very retro 2 knob unit that just powers up the sony when you switch it on.
