may aswell ask here, your often very surprising with your knowledge ;D ;D   basically, i have to move the hole further down, but theres what looks (Well, what is) a strengthening gusset in the way. what do people do to when they put type 9's into non rs shells? do they just cut through it and leave it? it looks kinda important so i don't wanna do that. what does the rs one look like? think i might just weld a think piece of metal onto the half of the gusset thats left, and complete the box if that makes sense? anyone got any ideas? |

Thats weird, I'm sure when i did my mk1 it wasent in the way. I remeber having to cut into the double skinned bit where the seam of the x-member joins the main floor panel but that was all it needed i think. Didnt relly have to cut into the box section.
Just cut away as much as you need too. don't bother moving it, just re box in the bit you have cut out.
u going to use the serria crossmember or move the mounts and use the escort one?

sierra one, mainly cos it seems easiest the rs shell looks like this, as standard:  which clearly shows a fat bit cut out of the gusset, and tyhats as standard, on the RS shell! so i think ill just weld a C into the bit i cut out |

I am pretty sure thats not on my MK1 but could be mistaken as the pinto was in the car when I got it but I have had the gearbox out a few times. I think you have to widen the tunnel a bit as well to let the type 9 fit. Again I know the tunnel in mine looks to have been completely replaced

ive got the rs alloy bellhousing, which is a lot narrower for the tunnel.
but, the next qquestion is: wehre can i get a rs2000 clutch release arm and bearing?

sierra one doesnt fit? or are you talking about using a sierra bellhousing aswell? in which case they are damn heavy, and bigger, and i rather spend a few quid on a release arm than have to persuade the opening to the tunnel with a hammer ;D ;D

If it's a hydraulic clutch (can't remember) then use an Anglia one. There's one on eBay at the mo

Burton or Rally Design probably do a new clutch fork and bearing in exchange for $$$
Just looked at a new RS2000 clutch (£20 cheap!) on eBay and it's the same as mine so standard Escort clutch fitment.

the clutch has the wrong amount of splines for the input shaft of the gearbox............went everywhere this afternoon (apart from ford) for a new clutch. and no where sells clutches any more!!! they only do kits, but sod paying £60 when ill throw the bearing and cover away. i think the clutch arm fits, but its too cold to get out there and look ;D |
