E is the emergency fuel cut-off, I think.

I'm pretty sure* 'E' means extinguisher.
*But I might be wrong.
Maybe it's the kill switch or fuel cut off.

The obvious ones are door cards or white circles to carry numbers, a white circle on the bonnet to carry numbers, your surname in the rear quarters, warning triangles for power and extinguisher (but pointless if you don't have cut-off switches on the outside), numerous stickers for oil, fluids and parts suppliers and a sunstrip. A raggedy collection: Car already featured above. And tape on the lights. Charlie

I'd be careful with driving around with the white circle and number on your door. Technically that means you're competing in some sort of public road event and you need special insurance. I believe you can put a cross of black tape over the number to indicate you're not competing.
Also the E is the fire extinguisher and the Lightning Bolt one is the electrical cut out.

Tape over the numbers on the road is an urban myth. It's an MSA regulation that doesn't even apply to all classes either, it's not required of rally cars. So they only need covering if you are in fact taking part in a motorsport and you don't want to get in trouble with the MSA.

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.

I spoke to someone not so long ago who got pulled over and got a bollocking for driving down the road with the numbers displayed on his car when he wasn't actually competing in something.

VW sell Beetles with Herbie numbers, Fiat sell 500 Abarths with door numbers, estate agents drive around in MINIs with door numbers...
Quoted from another forum on Ten Tenths Motorsport:
And you can drive a car on say a navigational rally or a 12-Car with numbers displayed in the window, and you don't need any special insurance to take part in one of them. (EDIT: Actually, you might do. Hence why you can only do them as part of a motor club. Hmm...)
The MSA regulation seems to only apply to cars taking place in events off public roads, circuit racing, sprints and hillclimbs etc. Stage rallying rules don't say that you have to remove or cover them on road sections.

Foxtons Estate Agents seemed to get away with it OK: www.foxtons.co.uk/foxtons/foxtons_mini_cooper.html
