After 2 years of ownership my hillbilly truck headed off into the sunset today. The 1960 F100 in question, Some of the more observant of you might spot the German plates. The guy who bought it phoned on Tuesday, arrived at 8pm on Friday and drove the un tested, unregistered van that hasnt been driven in at least 2 years in the direction of Rosyth today. He has at least another 350km's to drive on the other side and the wipers don't work, the brakes pull left and you need a screwdriver in the ignition to start it. I will own another, only sold it to pay for a major road trip this summer. Dave.

So he has it on a "Historic plate" untested by the TuV.
They will hang him high if they catch him.
But kudo's to him for doing the roadtrip.
I feel for you, but look forward to the roadtrip report.

He has made it as far as Rosyth for the 5pm ferry so wont be driving again for another 20 odd hours.
As for the plates, I was surprised he was able to get them and just drive off but I guess its his look-out as I offered to arrange transport.
Planning a road trip in the states so the sale will pay for flights for 4 of us and I will own another big ugly truck someday.
Dave.

We have been talking for years about buying a car in San Francisco and doing the LA- Vegas loop, coming back to San Fran via death valley and the national parks.
Cant wait and the old breaky article just fuelled the excitement so it has to happen.

Probably going to be July when we go.
We have a couple of car buyer contacts in San Fran and LA so we will hopefully source a car and get one of them to collect and service it before we get there.

I know its sorta been mentioned before but whats involved in insuring a car in the states if your not a us citizen (i.e just visiting) Me and the girlfriend have been talking about it for a while now and the plan is a big trip possibly coast to coast while its still relitively viable (fuel costs rising) meaning throw all our money at it and just go while were still young realy...
Or what would be involved in insuring a car that you import there yourself? i.e my polo haha... i know it would cost alot but would be fun

Stay in SF for a little while. We spent 2 weeks there a couple and half years ago and it was a fantastic holiday. You are going to love it. I am really quite jealous. I did not realise you could buy a car in the U.S being a U.K citizen, how would you register it, at what address?

Went to Sanfrancisco 4 years ago when I was setting up my import business, its a great city so looking forward to going back and showing my Mrs round as I left her behind last time (didnt go well).
I havent fully worked out the ins and outs of the insurance but there was a company name in the old breaky piece and I have contacts in San fran that can collect and store whatever I buy which will help greatly.
Dave.
